Ideally I see the list as codebase agnostic, but individual threads
as happily being codebase specific. My challenge in this are the
posting authority requests from people with questions on the order
of, "How do I change XXX in YYY codebase?" where all the variables
are well known (eg race/class/exit_code/Envy/Merc/Diku etc). While
I'll freely admit that those questions need to be asked (we all
start somewhere), I don't see this list as an appropriate venue.
Usenet perhaps? We've been using Usenet as a proving ground for
list members since the early days.

Ditto. I would that I had the time right now. My old question
concerning lightweight locking supports is still out there

I haven't had time to get much beyond that.

As I learned during the early days of the list -- there is little
that you can't scare interesting new questions and viewpoints out
of.
BTW: For those that noticed that the search features on the archives
were too slow to be usable, I recently more than doubled the RAM
installed on that machine, as well doing a little tuning. You
should find that searches are much faster now -- especially if you
limit your search to the appropriate period of the archives as
versus the entire message base.
