>> change it whenever he or she wanted, and then if other players wanted to
>> do the quest, they would have to perform whatever task, answer whatever
>> riddle, etc that the player-in-control sets. The advantage to this, I am
>> thinking, is that it would make for a much more interesting questing
>> system, and would make for more varied entertainment for the players.
>
>I've never tried this but it sure seems like you would be opening yourself
>up for a lot of potential headaches ranging from abuse of the privilage to
>schedualling headaches, (ie the key player isnt on at the same time as
>other players in different pats of the world).

I had a user on my BBS in the early 90's who had a nasty habit of
dominating the Hangman games on local boards by getting his words off the
back of shampoo bottles. His favorite was "methylchloroisothiazolinone".
Personally, I think it's more likely that people would do STRANGE riddles
-- I know I would.

The Sphinx grins. "What has twelve legs at morning, fourteen in the
afternoon, and eight at night?"
 >say Huh?
 You say "Huh?"
The Sphinx laughs. "Wrong! The answer was 'a turd'! Now I will have to
kill you."

Remember the discussion about putting calculations on the client? This is
even worse. Not only does the player have an opportunity to cheat the game,
he also has the opportunity to directly cheat other players.
