Nearing a Large Village~

You are just outside a small town that seems to have been surrounded in
cherry trees and weeping willows. How they are protecting the town from the
ravages of the desert, much less grow in the desert at all, is beyond your
thinking. The desert spreads out to the north, east and west, but the road
only continues to the north and into the town to the south.

Cherry blossoms swirl in the air about you, borne upon a barely felt breeze

steel weapons and armor is created for the samurai, bushi and even the shop
keepers. Merchants from all throughout the land send apprentices here to
try to fathom the secrets of the incredible steel here, but no gaijin has
managed to make off with the knowledge. A wide open door to the west leads
to the road outside.

The Shrine of Mercy~
~
~
An overwhelming feeling of peace comes over you as you pause at this
small shrine to the Goddess of Mercy. Branches covered in cherry blossoms,
fresh fruits and fragrant lotus flowers have been left here as offerings to
the Goddess in hopes that she continues to protect the town from the evils
of Lukin Wan. There are no real walls about you, but a trellis covered in
clinging vines shelters you from the elements outside. An opening to the
east leads out to Kozakura Road.

A few cherry blossom petals float in the air across the road brought in

from a small shrine to the west. The road continues along to the north and

The pond is almost more of a small stream here as this shallow area
twists from the east to the south towards a low red bridge that spans across

scene. A few cherry blossom petals float in the water and you can spy more
of them to the east.

The waters here seem to have a strong undercurrent that flows in from

sheets. The overall feeling in this room was as if you were surrounded by
endless waves of water. A door to the north leads out into the hall.&w

Hungsete Road~
~
~
You find yourself just inside the southeastern gate of the town of Shou
Lung. A small guardhouse (more of a shack, really) sits just to the
southwest of where you currently are. You can't see much of the town from
here for the blooming cherry trees and elegant weeping willows grow too
thickly to view any of the buildings. The road twists towards the north
just to the east of you and continues out of the town towards the west.

Outside a Guardhouse~
~
~
You are at the southern edge of the town of Shou Lung. Thick cherry
trees and weeping willows seem to have popped up from nowhere in the desert
and are hiding a small town within their grove. Magic is thick in the air
and you're guessing that there's more to this town than meets the eye. A
small guardhouse to the south contains the town samurai who guard the
citizens from the desert monsters. The road continues east into the town
and leaves to the west.

The Road to Shou Lung~
~
~
You are on a slightly sandy road that leads into the town of Shou Lung.
You scan about and spot a guardhouse to the southeast but can't make out
anything of the town it guards. You think you can see... Trees? But you
can't be quite sure for that many trees can't grow in the desert without a
large water source. And then it wouldn't even be the desert anymore, would
it? You can enter the town to the east or follow the road to the south.

The Road to Shou Lung~
~

The heat of the desert is almost unbearable even tho those who are native
to this kind of punishment. However, to the north and east, a cool breeze
brings the scent of cherry blossoms with it. You try taking a closer look
but can only spot a haziness that could just as well be a mirage. The
desert continues to stretch out to the south and west and the road you are
on continues to the northeast.

Entrance to the Dancer's Pavillion~
~
~
You are at the entrance of a large pavillion in which plays are acted out
through dance and music. To some, the music may seem strange and unnerving,
but it eventually becomes familiar and lends to the air of mystery as the
story progresses. To the south are many rows of benches facing a stage to
their east. To the west is a door leading out to the road.

The Audience~
~
~
You find yourself amidst many low wooden benches that have been covered
in silk pillows. They have all been set facing east towards a stage where
you can see a few dancers in bright white makeup and armor dancing out a
mock battle to strange music. A short flight of steps leads on to the stage
so that you can visit with the dancers or you can leave the pavillion
through the entrance to the northwest.

The Stage~
~
~
You stand upon a large wooden stage. Red silk curtains look like they
lead to some kind of room to the east of you and to the west of you you can
see rows of logs for people to sit on as they watch the shows. Small cubby
holes are to the north and south of you for actors and dancers to wait for
their cue to go on stage. Wooden katanas and other fake weapons lie strewn
about waiting for their owners to pick them up and resume their mock
battles.

The Dressing Room~

You find yourself within the dressing rooms of the dancers' pavillion.
Costumes of all sorts are hanging from pegs and from the backs of chairs.
Props for many different performances rest within the wardrobes standing
along the wall and small instruments sit within their cases. A counter with
a large mirror is lined with make-up and perfumes. The only obvious exit is
through a curtain to the west.

A Small Guardhouse~

This small guardhouse is where the local samurai stand watch to protect
the citizens of Shou Lung from the monstrocities that live in the desert and
to keep an eye on incoming visitors. The house is a single room, really,
rather than a real house and is bare of all furniture except for a single
cot and and a footlocker for belongings.

The Fish Market~

~
The smell of fish is incredibly strong here and the aroma almost hits
like a brick wall. Crates and counters filled with trout, red snapper,
salmon, squid and many other types of fish are packed to their tops. This
seems to be a sushi lover's heaven. A thought briefly flashes to mind..
Where did they get all these fish if this town is in the middle of a desert?
Perhaps the Goddess provides as well as protects.

In the Fishpond~

Thick reeds, roots of floating lilypads, cherry blossoms and sediment
from the bottom of the pond cloud the water making this corner of the pond
the most difficult for vision. Sound is very distorted from all the life
and movement in the surrounding waters causing the other sense to not be
very reliable. It's very difficult to tell which way is up, but it can be
surmised that the bank is nearby as passage to the north and west is blocked
by rock and earth.

You pause for a moment in your swimming to take in your surroundings.
Although the water is almost crystal clear, your vision is still a bit
blurry and so when you look to the west and see a small demonic shape, you
decide you must investigate it closer for surely you couldn't be correct.
You think you hear a deep laughter in the water, but that could also be the
sounds of your heart beating and water rushing in your ears. You can swim
to the south, east and west, or you may swim up to the surface above.

Small bits of sediment float in the water around you, stirred up by the
movements of your passing. Fish dart through the waving grasses and cattail
roots and brush along your legs. You hold out a hand a one nibbles gently
at your fingers causing them to tickle. You hope it's not just taking a
taste to see if you're worth the effort. The surface of the pond is just
above you, or you can continue swimming below to the south and to the west.

The underwater grasses wave slowly in time to the small currents of your

the north. You can swim to the surface above or continue your explorations
in the pond to the north or to the east.

The floor of the pond seems to be of fine sand and a thin layer of bright
green mosses. The occasional rock hides small fish that could either be
baby carp or unlucky guppies for the larger fish seem to be preying upon
them. You can continue to swim underwater to the north, east and west, or
you can push up to the surface and take a breath of fresh air.

You are almost choked by cherry blossoms that have fallen into the water
from a tree far above you. Your vision is next to nothing here and you
figure this would be a good place for some underwater nasty to attack
without notice. You can be free of most of the blossoms by swimming to the
north or to the west, or you can dive to the surface above to try to find
the tree itself.

Mai Lin's Chambers~

The wonderful aroma of honeysuckle and vanilla waft in the air and bring
a feeling of contentment. Long parchents covered in a strange script of
characters you can't read run along some of the walls and are only broken by
the occasional picture of a stalking tiger, singing nightingale or cherry
blossom tree. There is no bed in here except for a flat cushion lying in
the center of the floor. The only door out is to the north.

Above the Town Fountain~

The view from here is breathtaking as the trees and buildings all melt
away and give an unobstructed view of the surrounding area. A little ways
to the west is a shaolin temple and courtyard where the local monks can be
seen training dilligently. To the north is a fireworks factory and a road
that twists off further in that direction. To the east is a large manor
home and small pond. To the south is a small theater, and inn and the
residential area. The most spectacular thing to see, however, is the desert
that completely surrounds the village, yet is somehow kept at bay.
