You find yourself standing at the entrance to a cave dwelling.  Looking
around, you have a hard time believing that this is where the future city of
Methidoral lies.  Thick forests surround this area, and not a living being
is in sight.  You have traveled 15,000 years into the past to be standing
here right now.

A Dark, Damp Passageway~

You have stumbled upon a small, dark passageway.  It is very hard to see
even with your light source.  Shadows constantly flicker along the walls,
and you wonder if someone or something is watching.

The passage ends abruptly in a dead end here.  Although it is extremely
hard to see, you can make out some animal bones and what looks like some
type of clothing made from animal fur.  It is of very poor craftsmanship,
and you decide it is of little use.

Although this passage is just as dark as the ones to the west, you see a
faint light coming from further down the hall.  You wonder how people could
have survived the ice age in such primitive conditions to allow Methidoral
to develop into the flourishing city it is today.

A Flickering Passageway~

The light is getting stronger as you follow the passage, which takes a
sharp turn to the north.  You can only make out shadows in this room, but
you are certain it is a human life form making them.  Along the walls are
various battle scenes, depicting creatures that you have never laid eyes on
before.  It appears that a band of the tribe's hunters have surprised a
large creature that looks like a hairy elephant, and attack it with spears,
killing it and bringing it back for food.  You feel a little uneasy
confronting these barbarians, thinking they might do the same to you...

Methic Dorat Witch Doctor~

You have entered the room of the Witch Doctor of Methic Dorat.  Perhaps
the most powerful person in the tribe, even the leader fears him, for he has
magic which they cannot understand.  As you enter, the witch doctor seems
stunned as he looks over your clothing and begins to speak in a very excited
combination of grunts and whistles that you cannot understand.  He seems to
sense that you mean no harm, and eventually calms down enough for you to
draw closer...

You are in the main passage through the cave.  Cave paintings line the
walls, many of which you have a hard time understanding.  Most are hunting
scenes, containing animals that you have never seen before.  Looking at the
ground, you notice a long trail of blood on the ground, as if a large animal
was dragged through here.

Main Passageway~

You are startled to hear noises coming from the rooms to the east and the
west.  To the west, it sounds as if rocks are being banged together to make
primitive weapons.  To the east, a variety of grunts are heard, signifying
more than one person is in the room.  The trail of blood continues north and
south, and you feel compelled to investigate where it will lead.

A Primitive Weaponry~

~
Entering the room, you startle two neandrathals sitting on animal skin
rugs.  Looking you over the neandrathals cannot seem to figure out what you
want with them.  They reach for their spears, but seem to understand that
you mean no harm as you put your palms face up towards them.  Pulling out
some gold, they begin grunting very excitedly, and show you what they are
making.  You get the idea that they would like to trade their weapons for
some of your shiny coins, which they have never laid eyes on before.

A Primitive Armoury~

~
Animal skins lie all over this room, as you see three neandrathal women
preparing them for use against their main enemy---the bitter cold.  They
look at you, then at each other, and then back at you, wondering what you
want.  Pulling gold coins from your pocket, they become very excited and try
to steal them from you.  You realize that they have never seen money before,
and point at their animal hides, and then back at the coins.  They seem to
understand, and bring you a pile of their modified clothing for you to
inspect.

The main hallway continues, as does the trail of blood.  More paintings
line the walls, and you begin to not take as much notice of them as you
first did.  You wonder how these neandrathals survive here.  Although it
provides shelter from the wind and elements, it is still bitterly cold.

A Turn in the Passageway~

The passage takes a sharp turn to the west here.  The trail of blood
continues, and it appears that it is fresher here than in the rooms to the

this passage.  You can feel a slight warming of the temperature as heat
begins to slowly radiate down the hall from the west.

The passageway again turns to the north, as the trail of blood continues
on.  To the north, you can see a faint light flickering, but can't make out
any shadows.  Off in the distance, you hear muffled grunts and can feel a
stronger source of heat.

The Main Passageway~

The passage continues, and brancches out to the west here.  This room has
a faint glow to it, and is fairly warm compared to rest of the cave. 
Brighter light and stronger voices are coming from the west also, as the
trail of blood continues on to this room.  Sensing that they are gathered
for a meal, you wonder if it would be a good idea to interrupt them.

The Room of Paintings~

Upon entering this room, you are astounded at what you see.  Almost every
possible surface on the wall is covered with cave paintings, each depicting
its own story.  The voices and light are coming from the room to the west,
which must be the gathering place for the neandrathals.  The blood trail
leads directly into the room.

The Neandrathal's Gathering Place~

~
When you enter this room, your arrival is met with loud grunts and
ferocious pointing.  The males in the group rush to get their spears which
are standing in the corner of the room.  The women grab the children and
cower in fear.  A small fire burns in the room, and the trail of blood ends
here as you see a large animal being cooked on a spit.  The neandrathals
begin pointing at you, and then toward the south.  However, all you see is a
rug hanging there.

The Neandrathal Leader~

Entering the hidden passage, you realize that you are now standing in
front of the leader of these people.  Feeling much bolder, the other
Neandrathals gather around and begin to converse in a series of hushes
grunts.  The leader barks out a command and all of the others become silent.
Looking you over, he obviously deosn't know what to make of you.  He motions
for you to sit down, and offers you a chunk of undercooked meat that he had
been eating.  The language barrier is something that will be difficult to
overcome though.

travelled.  It is dark and damp, and you want to leave as soon as possible.

A Turn in the Passage~

The passage turns again, but this time you hear the awful moaning of one
of the Neandrathals.  While the Neandrathals are barbaric, they do tend for
the weak and the sick.  While there is little that they can do, they show
much compassion in dealing with death, as they know it can come at any time,
for any one.

The Dying Room~

Entering the room, you see one of the neandrathals lying on a animal skin
rug.  He is apparently in much pain, and is moaning loudly.  Upon closer
inspection of him, you see that he has been hurt very badly, probably in one
of the hunts.  With their lack of medicine, he will surely die, although the
women of the tribe are doing as much as they can to help him.  The sight of
him just laying there waiting to die is a very saddening one for you, but it
is the law of nature that only the strong will survive.

A Large fire is burning here, keeping the neandrathals safe from
predatory animals that abound.  However, it must be tended day and night by

After a few steps into the forest, Methic Dorat is completely hidden from
view.  The thick foliage of trees and plants almost completely block out the
sunlight.  It is extemely difficult to see in here, and perhaps the only
evidence of other creatures is the snapping of twigs and branches that can
be heard from time to time.
