The fountain is fairly simple.  It consists of a wide stone basin, a speckled,
graceful granite, perhaps four feet in diameter and a foot deep.  The squat
pedestal it sits on is a perfect cylinder of stone, eighteen inches tall.

The stand is an upright wooden cabinet.  Actually, it is a pair of cabinets,
one mounted above the other with a space between the town.  A porcelain 
washbasin is in the space between the cabinets.  The cabinet above the basin
contains a lead-lined tank that holds fresh water.  A metal spigot above the
basin allows water to flow.  The basin drains into a similar tank in the
lower cabinet.  A mirror on the upper cabinet permits self scrutiny.

This object is exactly as it appears.  It is a large copper cylinder, made of
a great sheet of copper soldered at the seams.  It is reinforced with strips
of brass.  It is held off of the floor on brass lion's-foot legs.  A brass
spigot in the shape of an eagle's head protrudes from the bottom of the tank.

Well, this certainly is an awful-looking thing.  At first glace, it appears
to be a skeleton holding a ribcage over its head.  Closer scrutiny reveals
that it is indeed that.  The skeleton is yellowed and hung with tattered
bits of flesh.  Its twisted hands hold up a very large ribcage, which is
wrapped in tightly-fitting, dessicated skin.  The ribcage is full of water.

This fine piece of work consists of a number of scalloped marble bowls
supported on the shoulders of cherubs.  A fan of water in the topmost bowl
fills the bowls.  Water trickles down through the levels of bowls, filling
each one and producing a relaxing sound.  This is a very nice fountain.

This fountain inspires nothing.  In fact, it looks like a great big bird bath.
It is just a white stone bowl and a slightly tapered pedestal.  Even the water
in the bowl seems plainer than other water.  How terribly boring.

This is interesting.  This is a curved slope of stones, carefully fashioned
from plaster and realistically painted.  Tiny plants grow in the cracks and,
to complete the realism, water trickles down the stones into a pool at the
bottom.  Silent clockworks draw the water back to the top of the slope.

Well, it's different.  It's unique.  It's interesting.  But, overall, there
really isn't much to look at it.  It is a simply a sphere of water about four
feet in diameter that hangs two feet in the air.  One wonders if one can swim
in it.  And will blowing dust get in it?  What if someone pours beer in it?

Three stone gargoyles, each with a unique and very disturbing face, hold up
an elaborately carved stone bowl with their wings.  The whole affair is hewn
from a single block of dark gray stone.  The frightening gargoyles seem to
twitch and fidget under the weight of the bowl.  It is certainly grim.
