.TH pdirt 9 "15 October 1996" "pDirt Beta 2" "pDirt MUD Documentation" .SH NAME pdirt -\ AberMUD IV derived MUD deamon. .SH DESCRIPTION pDirt is an AberMUD IV derived MUD system. It has an easy to use interface, complete working combat system and a small familiar World for players to explore. pDirt is a MUD system which is derived from the popular Dyrt MUD system. Dyrt was meant as a stable replacement of the old Dirt code, which had an enormous amount of bugs. pDirt is what i think might be happening to Dirt MUDs around the world. The pDirt system has several new features which make it unique to other AberMUD systems and even Dyrt. From a players point of view not much will seem different, but from a coders point of view there are several differences. .SH "IDEA OF THE GAME" .SS Basic idea The basic idea of AberMUDs is fairly simple: get enough points to become Immortal (ie a Wizard). When a player reaches wizardhood he/she will get many new commands and options to keep him/her busy for a while. .SS How do I become a Wizard/Witch? You become a wizard by gaining score points and solving quests. A player can gain score points in several different ways. The most common way is by killing mobiles and offering equipment/objects to the gods. To offer something you need to drop them into one of the pits that are scattered all around the World. .LP Once the player reached 300.000 points he/she will reach the level of Apprentice-Wizard. To become a full Wizard, the player must be promoted by a power. Some MUDs first test the player's knowledge of the game before promoting him/her to full Wizard. But this is all up to the Powers to decide. .SS Sounds easy but.... Indeed it sounds easy. All you have to do is run around, kill some mobiles and solve some quests. There are some things that will make it a little difficult and challenging. .LP One of these things is the dying part. When you loose a fight against a mobile, you die. If you die, you will loose all your equipment and stuff you're carrying, a percentage of your score and will be kicked out of the game. .LP The other part are the Deathrooms, feared by experienced and beginning players. When a player dies in a deathroom he/she will loose all their equipment and be kicked out. The player then has to start the search for a good weapon again. .SS Are there an infinite amount of weapons? Nope, there arent. When you leave, you will loose all your equipment. There is no way to store your equipment when you leave. To make sure there are enough weapons and objects around for players to use, the game is reset every once in a while. A reset can be requested by a player and performed by an Immortal, or can be done by a player by hitting the reset stone. An average time between resets is two and a half hours. .SH "BASIC COMMANDS" Here are some basic commands for those of you who never played a MUD before. .LP .I Movement: .TP .BI north, .BI south, .BI east, .BI west, .BI up, .BI down, .BI jump .LP .I Communication .TP .BI say, .BI chat, .BI cemote, .BI gossip, .BI shout, .BI tell < .I player > .LP .I Information .TP .BI help, .BI info, .BI qinfo, .BI time, .BI uptime, .BI who, .BI email, .BI inventory .LP .I Administrative commands .LP .BI opengame, .BI shutdown, .BI crash, .BI delete, .BI zap, .BI frob, .BI syslog .SH "SEE ALSO" .BR aberd (6) .SH "OH AND.."
