Currently being worked on by a meager staff that's trying to recruit new blood while maintaining a constant stream of new updates. However the MUD's world itself however still resembling a stock ROM will over time be made into a beautiful world of fantasy and steam-powered machinery. Using characters, stories, and locations initially made during years of Dungeons and Dragons sessions (playing a custom module) that later would be used to begin creating the skeleton of a RPG video game that still as you read this is in the process of development.
The areas will be original, no anime/movie/literary/video game based areas- strictly areas created for the world of Clockwork. Character classes range from the paladin-like Marshall Guards and the fun loving Tricksters to the hex wielding Diabolists and the dirty sea-faring Pirate. 4 deities are currently available for characters to worship, 1 evil, 1 good, 2 neutral, and more are on the way. A wide range of races, each with various advantages and disadvantages. Roleplay is strongly encouraged and will be rewarded.
Currently we offer:
- 16 classes available upon creation - Over 25 races - An auto-quest system - Several pk clans available from the start, each with their own connections to the game's world - ANSI Color - Equipment saving on exit
And in works so as to be coming in the near future:
- A remort system featuring 2 additional tiers, with the 2nd tier set opening up 16 additional classes, and the 3rd tier set of which will include special quest requirements to unlock and will feature several additional class choices including special race-related classes. - Hundreds of new and original skills and spells - A huge world to explore - Several ways of character customization to help enhance the roleplay experience - Multiple additional autoquest system, each with their own rewards and perils
So feel free to stop by and visit us and if you're a builder or coder interested in joining our staff send us a message. All inquiring builders/coders will be spoken to and given a explanation of the world of Clockwork to give a better feel for what is required.
The Final Challenge began in March of 1994, and is more commonly known to those who play it as TFC or 'the mud'. It has a dedicated, addicted, & friendly player base from all over the world that enjoys meeting new people and interacting. TFC attracts a variety of types of players. You'll find players who place a heavy emphasis on role- playing, those who are PKers, those who enjoy the puzzles, challenges, and mobmasteries in the game, those who enjoy exploring the almost entirely unique 12,000+ room world, those who like to sit and chat, & those who are a mixture of all of the above. And you won't get lost in the crowd - since there are generally 20-30 people online at a time.
TFC has a god-follower system and a variety of alignment flavors that a character can choose from. Of course, characters can also go it on their own and remain unaligned. Characters may dual and triple class as well. Players may also have multiple characters (and many do), so long as they are not online at the same time and are played as separate individuals. Stop by mud.finalchallenge.net 4000 and check it out for yourself.
Alter Aeon is a custom MUD written entirely from scratch. The theme is fantasy, with magic, swords, and sorcery. There's little technology, and what there is, is either imported, misunderstood, or both. There are six character classes, and the game is structured entirely around multiclassing. Your true class as you reach higher levels is usually a combination of your top two or three classes, and the skillsets you pick. PK and PvP is only allowed via temporary registration.
Note that Alter Aeon is not an RP enforced or encouraged game. We have big system events every month or two which can be RP, but most player interaction is not. That said, the world has an amazing amount of lore, backstory, and history. There are hundreds of story-based quests and storylines, some of them spanning continents.
- A high userload, regularly exceeding a hundred active players - Instancing to limit conflict in high value zones - A custom client with built in maps - Soundpacks and extensive support for the blind and visually impaired - Multiple PK options, including arenas and clan wars - Various crafting options, including potions, staffs, scrolls, grenades, enchanting, and more. - Boats and seafaring ships - Player owned and operated clans and item shops - Player owned and moderated channels - Socialization support - built in ignore, friends lists, private messages, mudmail, etc. - Accounts for keeping track of multiple characters
Pern, the third planet from the star Rukbat, was colonized by settlers from a far-future Earth seeking a less technologically-dependent existence. The ideals of the colonists were upset by the coming of Thread, a mindless space organism that eats everything it touches that isn't metal, stone or water.
Currently set on Pern's northern continent in the Tenth Interval, NorConMush explores the fallout from a recent Comet Pass, an unexpected return of Thread ten turns into what was expected to be 200 turns of Threadfree skies. Our timeline originally picked up from the end of "The White Dragon" where a non-functional AIVAS was discovered and relegated to the dust heap of history. As such the events that took place in ATWoP have not occurred and our Pern continues to struggle with the cycle of Passes and Intervals and the push and pull of politics and social change that it entails.
A MUD that has existed for nearly 20 years, with many players and wizards who have been around for the same amount of time. A fantasy experience that is incredibly rich in detail, and growing every single day. Come and experience the Tsunami.
Act of War has been live since December of 1998. It is a heavily modified Rom codebase. In AoW players can participate in pk as well as rp. Both are encouraged. Choose from a wide range of races and classes in an all original world. Players will reclass at level 20 branching into various sub classes to continue on their journey to Legendary status!
Pain slams into you as you open your eyes. The radioactive desert sandsblister your skin and suck away your last ounces of strength. Struggling to your feet you take inventory: wounded body, a chaingun , one last clip of ammo, one fragmentation grenade, and the iron-will to look past those odds. Corpses of Blackhand's entire regiment litter the ground around you. Only a few survivors remain, and calling them survivors is a stretch.
Wild bolts of lightning blast across the sky, announcing the death of Yet another of the reborn. In the tracks left by the lightning, graceful, metal wings can be seen, beating against the gray clouds. She is coming for you, the reborn. Slapping your last clip into your chaingun, you watch as the avenging angel drops out of the sky and lands before you, folding her wings around her body like a cloak. A Black metal hand draws a white blade from the glinting scabbard at her hip. As the avenging angel raises the blade to strike, you compress the trigger and begin firing.
A hail of bullets wash over the winged woman, most just bouncing off her black skin like sand in the wind. Grimly, you pull the pin on the grenade and hold your last hope in your hand. You may be dead a minute from now, but you are determined not to go alone… This is your last stand, this is war, this is, CYBERASSAULT…

MUD: In online gaming, a MUD (originally Multi-User Dungeon, with later variants Multi-User Dimension and Multi-User Domain), pronounced /m?d/, is a multi-user real-time virtual world. Most MUDs are represented entirely in text, but graphical MUDs are not unknown. MUDs combine elements of role-playing games, hack and slash, interactive fiction, and online chat. Players can read or view depictions of rooms, objects, other players, non-player characters, and actions performed in the virtual world. Players typically interact with each other and the world by typing commands that resemble a natural language.
Traditional MUDs implement a fantasy world populated by fictional races and monsters, with players being able to choose from a number of classes in order to gain specific skills or powers. The object of this sort of game is to slay monsters, explore a fantasy world, complete quests, go on adventures, create a story by roleplaying, and advance the created character. Many MUDs were fashioned around the dice-rolling rules of the Dungeons & Dragons series of games.
Restarted game from the mid to early 90's. Known as TOC or DLL (formerly Dragons of Legends and Lore) I am one of the original Implementors and am currently playing with the code to add new features. The game offers a new race, several new classes, many new skills/spells, as well quite a few new things that a stock ROM would not offer.
Heavily modified and constantly changing Star Wars Reality codebase MUD. Looking for players, as well as immortals for a variety of different roles within the MUD. The players matter on SWNG and we would definitely like to hear from you.
Amitoune, the way of the Ambitious, is a well established Smaug Mud, with over fifty areas, and more on the way, 100 player levels + 100 guild levels, four base classes, each with three orders, and ten guilds. Amitoune is under constant development, and currently in Open Beta. Amitoune has competitive, and open PvP, as well as openness to roleplay. New characters will likely find help from one of our oldbies, and be taken through the ropes.
8BitMUSH is a collaborative virtual world, where every player is encouraged to extend the game with their own creations. 8Bit is text-based, enhanced with 256 colors and over a hundred symbol, shading, and line-drawing characters. Players combine them in clever ways (using our mouse-driven paint program) to draw FANSI Artwork. The community is very social, with over 10 years of history, real life gatherings, and a unique culture consisting of lava hats, cosmic mules and meeple hunting.
A virtual economy allows players to run their own companies, invest in the stock market, and buy and sell products from various shops and vendors. Blast off into space and mine minerals and colonize planets. Explore the ocean in search of treasure, battling monsters and gaining experience. Solve interactive fiction puzzles, play board and arcade games, gamble at the casino, and explore hundreds of player-built areas. If THAT isn't enough to convince you: we also single-handedly won MUSH World War II, defeating tyranny and securing freedom for the entire MU* Community. You're welcome.
Aragond: the Chronicles is the first chapter in an epic story about a world being discovered, developed, and protected against outside threat. (If it's been raining you see pools of rain, if snowing it will show blankets of snow, etc..) - A QEditor (Quest Edit) custom created for OLC. - Multitudes of expansions to the stock OLC, including new sectors, obj types, npc races, act flags, and much much more. - Weapon specialization for fighters. - Elemental specialization for wizards, giving them an edge when dealing with their element of affinity. - Wizards learn spells from scrolls, and can scribe them to teach other wizards. - Traps, trap detection, secret doors, hidden/buried objects, and more! - Complete removal of stock areas. We offer nothing but completely original areas. - Tiered skill system; gain guild ranks to learn better skills. - And much, much more.

BucketMUD is a single-threaded hack-and-slash MUD engine, based on the EmberMUD server. It is currently in a state of heavy, unstable development.
Development is coordinated through GitHub, with a public read-only git repository for developers to pull the current code from and an issues database for tracking bugs, feature requests, and other tasks. Forums are available for in-depth discussion about ongoing development.
This is the live development server where everyone is welcome to test the engine, or to just hang out and chat.
Elvenblade is a MUD in active development. It is NOT in a production state. It is currently in an OPEN BETA phase. Vernian is a world ravaged by cataclysm, fraying at the edges and worn threadbare from a century of conflict between magic and technology. Do you have what it takes to survive outside the safe havens of the cities or the citadel of Kaldun? Whether you fancy yourself an explorer of the far reaches, a warrior armsmaster, a weaver of potent spells, or a crafter of fine works, you can find your way in the world. The land has need for a champion, to lead it out of the darkness. Will you strike down the magic-wielders of the accursed First Immortal or will you weave that very magic to strike down your foes and smite their ruin across the land? The choice is yours.
Elvenblade features an atmosphere beyond any other mud, something we take a great deal of pride in and continue to work towards. Features that set Elvenblade apart include:
A classless learning system wherein players can learn from a pool of common skill sets and also learn a certain number of more exclusive skill sets.
An intensive NPC scheduling system that simulates NPCs living out their little digital lives, with over fourty unique schedule actions that these NPCs take, not to mention the custom code present in some NPCs.
Dynamic descriptions that change with the time of day, weather, etc.
Several races to choose from that instead of being copies of each other with different stats, all have unique, exclusive racial skillsets, their own cultures, and more.
Support for many TELOPT features, including MCCP, MSP, MDSP, MSSP, and MXP, to enrich your mud experience with compressed data transition, sound, and extended options not supported in normal MUDs.
ALPHA (still in development) support for screen readers for blind or vision-impaired individuals.
The Lands of Aethar is an old SMAUG MUD which ran for over 15 years. Now it has been shut down, but the world remains online, frozen in time as an HTML snapshot. This is the only SMAUG MUD in the world, and one of very few MUDs at all, whose entire universe can be navigated through the mainstream HTML internet.
