Welcome to Ansalon,

Ansalon is a MUD (Multi User Dimension) where a player can become an imaginary character in the DragonLance world, and interact with other players who are also playing at the same time. Your character can be a Silvanesti Elf, a Neidar Dwarf, a Human, a Minotaur, a fun-loving Kender, or any of a multitude of races. He/she can be a powerful Warrior, stealthy Thief, a devout Cleric, a backwoods Ranger, a mystic Mage, a martial Monk, and more!

Ansalon is a mud thats been around for a long time, in fact Ansalon has been up and running for 20 years, and is a stable, well-developed world, with custom code and custom areas to explore. There are always immortals around who are very helpful and open to the constantly changing wants and needs of players.

Ansalon is always looking for new players with new stories to tell and new conflicts to insight. Speaking of stories, check out our stories page!! Thousands of stories from 2000 through now! Read them by author, updated as they post!

Newbies are encouraged and with them in mind, Ansalon offers detailed maps and lots of people willing to help out and give advice so that folks unused to Ansalon _dont_ have to struggle through the often painful process of learning a new mud. There is a great new 'USE' command for almost any object you find, give it a shot! Ask questions on the Newbie channel (or OOC), get all of the free maps from the school.. And READ that email we sent you, it does have some great information on how to get started!

We fully encourage clans and other organizations. Perhaps you'd like to join the Solamnic Knights? Or join the Conclave of Mages? Or maybe you want to further Takhisis' evil Knights of Takhisis' cause? No matter what your character wants to do, there's a clan that should suit his/her taste. Many of these groups are looking for fresh blood as well. Its very possible for new players to rise to leadership positions given hard work and a lot of interaction with other players. New/Old clans, Mercenary, Mariner! Ships ahoy! There are rumors of a goblin uprising!

Ansalon, your source for DragonLance excellent role playing since 1996.

As the introduction has said for a long time:
DUMII is a multiuser adventure game set in a fantasy world. The current idea of the game is to score enough points to advance to the next level while having loads of fun! To get to the next level you will have to solve intriguing problems, kill obnoxious monsters, interact with the other players and generally figure out what you are meant to do.

DUMII is unique in the way that it is both very old (its been online since 1989), yet it has remained a simple mud without thousends of classes, millions of spells and so on. There are not a lot of choices to make about your character, you'll have to choose sex and settle on an alignment after a while, but that's all there is to it and everyone becomes the same figher/spellcaster as everyone else in the end. The players express themselves via their colourful descriptions, their unique possessions and of course via their actions, making everyone quite unique in the end.

So on one hand DUMII is quite simple. It is easy to get started even if one has never played a mud before, on the other hand DUMII can be quite hard. It expects the players to read the descriptions, think and experience the world as well as role play their character. The game play does not centre around killing monster after monster. Sure one can kill a monster if one wants and sometimes one must, but there is no experience rewards for it.
God Wars II is a fast and furious PK mud, designed to test player skill in terms of pre-battle preparation and on-the-spot reflexes, as well as the ability to adapt quickly to new situations. Take on the role of a godlike supernatural being in a fight for supremacy.

About your character:

  • Three types of character creation, allowing great freedom for customisation.

  • Levelless advancement through stats, skills, styles, talents and powers.

  • Over a hundred and fifty talents, each granting specialised character options.

  • Over a hundred unique powers divided among the six supernatural classes.

  • Redesign your character whenever you like - only your name and class is fixed.

  • About the world:

  • Roomless coordinate-based world with weather, tides, flowing rivers, etc.

  • Dynamically generated object and world descriptions, updated on-the-fly.

  • Three scales of ASCII map for the world, and another for weather patterns.

  • Alternative planes of existence, each a distorted mirror of the main world.

  • Each player has their own home plane, which can be terraformed as desired.

  • About the combat:

  • Unique combat system requiring simultaneous control of 4-6 body locations.

  • Over twelve thousand fighting techniques, divided among dozens of combat tables.

  • Each weapon type has its own unique list of fighting moves and combinations.

  • Different types of wound, each of which impacts the victim in various ways.

  • Unique spell system designed to be fully compatible with the combat system.

  • About equipment:

  • Object Oriented design: All items (and small mobs) are potential weapons.

  • Clothing and armour is layered, and each piece can cover multiple locations.

  • Randomly generated magical items, with different bonuses for each item type.

  • Numerous ways to craft and customise your weapons, armour and equipment.

  • Epic items: Powerful unique items, with bonuses that players can fully customise.

  • About exploration:

  • Earn rewards for exploring, and unlock quests as you discover new areas.

  • Various one-shot quests that give generous rewards for difficult challenges.

  • Randomly generated dungeons, with rewards for killing the boss monsters.

  • Hundreds of different monsters, each with unique skills and tactics.

  • Maps which can be deciphered, providing an alternative to grind-advancement.

  • Other features:

  • Different types of pet that can be trained up, equipped, and issued orders.

  • Shapechanging powers, including a fully customisable form for demons.

  • Boost point system which rewards casual play and makes botting less viable.

  • The popular WAR mini-game; command your worshippers to destroy the heathens!

  • Lock-picking puzzle system based completely on player skill.
  • Avalon: The First Age has been around, roughly, since 1999. As it is not a MUD for everyone, it is definitely a classic in my opinion. It differs from a lot of other text-based games out there in its style and it more certainly has a unique and new warfare system that has been implemented recently by the Gods.

Let me tell you a little about Avalon: The First Age. There are three main cities. Thakria, the evil city of Miracles. Mercinae, the city of light. And Parrius, the old pirate stronghold. At current, there are 18 guilds, some of which share the same profession, that are spread throughout Avalon, some in the cities.:

Guilds that hold the Knight profession:
    Knights - Mercinae
    Warriors - Parrius
    Cavaliers - Thakria

Guilds that hold the Mage profession:
    Mages - Mercinae
    Enchanters - Parrius

Guilds that hold the Sorcerer profession:
    Sorcerers - Thakria

Guilds that hold the Thief profession:
    Thieves - Thakria
    Brigands - Grey Forest

Guilds that hold the Ranger profession:
    Rangers - Greenwood Forest

Guilds that hold the Seer profession:
    Mystics - Mercinae
    Astrologers - Parrius
    Seers - Thakria

Guilds that hold the Loremaster profession:
    Alchemists - Mercinae
    Artisans - Parrius
    Loremasters - Thakria

Guilds that hold the Druid profession:
    Animists - Northern Greenwood Forest

Guilds that hold the Bard profession:
    Bards - Mercinae
    Minstrels - Thakria

Each city has its own politics. There tend to be three Barons elected to the leadership of each city. The Barons are responsible for running the city as well as welcoming new citizens.

There are Divine Orders in which players may join. It is somewhat player-ran in the higher ranks. However the God of the Order has, of course, the utmost power. The High-Priest/High-Priestess and/or the Chosen One have decent powers within the Order as well.

The Gods are very much apart of the realm, and should be respected above all. The Divine Pantheon do no live under mortal law.

Each player has a chance to ascend to Divine ranks via taking part in the Divine Gem Quests.

Avalon: The First Age has a custom codebase, making it completely and utterly original.

This game is pay to play, with a trial period. However, if you come to enjoy the game but are unable to pay, speak to a God and they may be able to help you.

Established in 1996, Aardwolf has grown to be a highly popular MUD with
hundreds of players online at a time. Aardwolf is more than a game -
it's a community. Many players have been around for years, not only due
to the "family" atmosphere, but because Aardwolf has a dedicated team of
administrators and an amazing leader who is constantly bringing new
features to the MUD. In addition, it offers over thirty player-run clans,
focusing on everything from art and poetry, to player-killing, to
assisting newbies. Aardwolf is extremely newbie-friendly, with a special
starting area designed to introduce players to the basic commands and
features, a channel dedicated completely to new players, and a team of
    player "Helpers" to answer questions.

Aardwolf features a real time line-of-sight overhead map, a detailed
class system (with specializations in each guild), hundreds of areas
to explore and an extensive Lua-based scripting system which allows
player-builders to create unique challenges. Players can focus on
different stats depending on playing style - for combat, enchanting, clan
defense, PK, or even exploration. Players can earn quest and trivia
points, and exchange them for special items - the points can be obtained
through automated quests and campaigns, competitive global quests, area
puzzles, or even Immortal-run trivia games. Hundreds of optional
story-line puzzles exist within the world, with prizes ranging from
special items to gold to raw experience points. For those who need blood,
Aardwolf has wars, private duels, and free-for-all rooms. Aardwolf also
has dozens of channels available, where players can engage in game-related
or completely random topics. Aardwolf's numerous features are really too
many to fully list here - in addition to the above, the Aardwolf community
has poker, lasertag arenas, blackjack tables, florists, and much more.
ASM; Miami by Night is a heavily immersive role-play game set in a modern World of Darkness theme in Miami, Florida. We feature Vampire; the Masquerade, Hunter; the Reckoning and Werewolf; the Apocalypse in as close to a true-to-life tabletop gaming environment as we can manage. We have no mobs to kill, no quests to run, and absolutely no socials of any kind.

Miami by Night calls for great effort in role-play – to prevent any surprises for new players, an average pose (pose is our version of the emote command) is generally a four to six sentence paragraph. Some do a little more, some do a little less. Quantity is never as appreciated as quality, however – we don't ask for perfection, just effort.

We feature the more comfortable MUD-style commands with the role-play niceties of a MUSH, and have frequent code revisions and changes to smooth any bumps in the system. Combat is run almost solely by players, though there is a full Staff in place to mediate where requested.

Come give us a try – we'd be glad to help you get to know the game.
Cruentus Apocalypsis is a post-apocalypstic World of Darkness implementation. Currently, the MUD is in transition from a globally-based, logged RP-chat form of RP to a more involved and room based form of RP. The logs are freely available both within the game world and from our website.

[We are undergoing renovations. We recently switched to a new C++ base (Scratch:www.dragonssquare.com).]

Create a vampire, a stalker of the night that has to feed from the blood of the living to persist day to day, teetering on the loss of their humanity. Become the werewolf, the Earth Spirit's guardian and protector, thrust into a world of wildlife encroachment and potent waste being dumped on the Earth Mother. Climb from the Abyss as one of the third of angels that were cast out of Heaven as a result of The Morning Star's question of authority. And we're just starting with the possibilities…
Welcome, weary traveler, to Aabrahan. Meaning 'Cursed' in an
ancient, long-forgotten tongue, the land known as Aabahran is a
realm of conflict. For eons the forces of good and evil have waged
their war upon its soil. Are you a valiant KNIGHT, or perhaps a
demonic minion of NEXUS? A mage of SAVANT, or a battle-hardened
WARMASTER? Are you a prestigious NOBLE who one day aspires
to be a ROYAL of your city, or perhaps a vampiric assassin of
SYNDICATE out fulfilling a contract against a vigilant lawman of TRIBUNAL.

With seasoned Implementor Malchaeius leading a team of dedicated
staff members, the game is in a phase of forward progress. All
of the eight cabals are self-sufficient, and provide for enhanced
gameplay. RISK-like army combat now makes each and every one of
FL’s original areas available for conquest. Diplomacy and
trade between the cabals rests in the arms of it’s members
through the innovative voting system. Vendettas between cabals
offer an exhilarating cabal warfare experience through our advanced
player against player combat system. Above all this, you have the
opportunity to apply to play any race you can think of. A Dragon?
An imp? A shade? On FL, the only limit is that of your own
imagination. If there is something you want that is not here,
chances are that it is in development.

FL has one of the most intricate and creative combat systems,
with a practically custom codebase. Originally forged in the hands
of our Implementor-emeritus Virigoth, the Forsaken Lands codebase
allows for the most immersive and enjoyable gaming experiences to date.
On top of all that, the code is still being developed and improved to
make an even better environment for its players.

New to the concept of MUDs? No problem. In addition, FL boasts one
of the most newbie-friendly systems available. With immortals
from locations spanning the globe, there is seldom a moment where
one is not available and eager to answer any of your questions.
Alter Aeon is a custom MUD written entirely from scratch. The theme is fantasy, with magic, swords, and sorcery. There's little technology, and what there is, is either imported, misunderstood, or both. There are six character classes, and the game is structured entirely around multiclassing. Your true class as you reach higher levels is usually a combination of your top two or three classes, and the skillsets you pick. PK and PvP is only allowed via temporary registration.

Note that Alter Aeon is not an RP enforced or encouraged game. We have big system events every month or two which can be RP, but most player interaction is not. That said, the world has an amazing amount of lore, backstory, and history. There are hundreds of story-based quests and storylines, some of them spanning continents.

    Other features:

    - A high userload, regularly exceeding a hundred active players
    - Instancing to limit conflict in high value zones
    - A custom client with built in maps
    - Soundpacks and extensive support for the blind and visually impaired
    - Multiple PK options, including arenas and clan wars
    - Various crafting options, including potions, staffs, scrolls, grenades, enchanting, and more.
    - Boats and seafaring ships
    - Player owned and operated clans and item shops
    - Player owned and moderated channels
    - Socialization support - built in ignore, friends lists, private messages, mudmail, etc.
    - Accounts for keeping track of multiple characters

We hope to see you there!

Worlds of Carnage started as a Diku based MUD in the early 90s. It has seen several generations of code improvement and addition and has close to 100 fully developed areas (not auto-generated ones, but honest to God someone worked on them areas…). It supports active multi-classing in a system that doesn't allow for blatantly overpowered combinations and it is a full-time PK MUD. New players are encouraged to start in either Elip (easier leveling) or Elkin (easier access to new user materials and trainers.)
Cajun Nights MUSH, New Orleans by Night, is based upon White Wolf Gaming Studios <tm> 2nd Edition original World of Darkness <oWoD> games that has been running since 1995 with a good player base and a great team of Staff Members.

All of our spheres are active, as is the Crime/Civil/Law sphere and we are running regular cross-sphere plots to involve Mortals and Supernaturals alike.

o Mortals: the Many & Mortal Plus: the Special - Our mortal and mortal+ spheres have many openings for those who prefer playing characters without supernatural abilities. Whether you want to be the high-society type or be involved in the University or one of the street people, there are plenty of opportunities.

o CCL: the Balance - If the world of crime – being one of the bad guys or being one of the people trying to catch them – is your thing, there are plenty of openings. There are openings for everyone from mooks and drug-pushers, to white-collar criminals.
Things are as open on the other side of the street as well – patrol cops, state police, FBI agents, to name a few.
The civil world, that which everything else in the WoD is based off of, is represented here too! Medical, Political and Educational, just to name a few. Come in and join the fun.

o Werewolf: the Apocalypse - This sphere is a terrific place to serve Gaia. There are openings for every tribe except Red Talons, and for every auspice. Kinfolk are needed as well, and we are also accepting Bete/Fera.
The Umbra will be very important in the stories to be told in the coming months, so those of you with an interest in Terra Incognita may find it an especially good place to play.

o Vampire: the Masquerade - There are openings for all Camarilla clans, including the Gangrel (who, in our chronicle, have never left the Camarilla) and for Independant clans as well.

o Voodoo: the Macabre - New Orleans hosts a vibrant Voodoun community, which anyone, mortal or other super, is welcome to join. Not everyone is chosen for a special relationship with the lwa, but each spirit is seeking followers right now.
We operate our own version of Voodoun, developed for us by Sam Chupp and recently updated by our own staff.

o Mage: the Ascension - The sphere here is focused on the Traditions and the internal strife between them, though the Technocracy does have a play in the activities around the city and its environs.
New characters are welcome, but we are a bit more picky about which traditions are available. Acolytes and consors are being accepted almost across the board.

Rhost is our game code server and it gives us several terrific features. Obfuscation and the Umbra are now fully coded, as are the Auspex and Mind Shield effects that go along with it.

Our +queue system gives the Staff more information about what player requests are still pending and what needs to take place to get them resolved in a timely fashion.

New Worlds Ateraan is a full featured Intensive Roleplaying Game. Offering several unique and powerful guilds, races, politics, religion, justice, economy, and a storyline that is dominately player controlled with a history and background based on a novel for more robust roleplay direction.

The Guilds range from your standard Fighter and Mage to the strange Retter and unique Merchant which is widely accepted as an enhanced roleplaying Guild with exciting features like guard hiring caravans, ship building and repair, clan building, house builing, auction houses, theater control, and separations of weapons and armour.

Religion is a topic of large debate and conflict, but definitely not the only one. With racial cities and two distinct nations of varying loyalty and politics, Ateraan abounds in opportunities for the new immigrant and the long time established player. Social standing can be as important as strength of arms and starting in New Worlds is simple and direct with staff members, guides and experience players to assist you.

Murder and intrique can find you in dark alleys or on a highway, or you can seek gold and fame with groups ranging in size from solo to twenty or more adventurers raiding a stronghold, or you can relax on an open beach while fishing, digging for clams, finding crabs, or swimming in shark infested waters.

The diversity of roleplay and adventure in New Worlds is astounding as you will find yourself aligned with a faith or clan, race or guild, or on a romantic get away to an inn or resturaunt with intelligent servers, or perhaps smoking gnome pipes while watching a theatrical performance in a fully operational and player run grand theater. And the serious roleplay only matches the hundreds of weapons, armours, creaturs, artifacts, and items of power.

A newest feature is the massive shipyards that boast several unique styles of ships from the tiny two man dinghy to the sleek and fast cutter, to the huge fifteen crew and multiple room yacht, to the fortress of the sea war galleon that boasts over nine distinct and seperate weapons.

Our ships and seas offer exciting quests, deep sea fishing, cargo caravan runs from various ports, pirate hoves and enemy ships, the ability to board and sink opposing ships, go on whaling runs, and battle other players at sea, even to the point of massive armada combat.

All we ask of our roleplay focused playerbase is that you remain in character while in the game. While there are out of character areas, the game thrives and demands strict roleplaying, giving New Worlds the magic of a well written, yet unscripted story.

What most have said about New Worlds, "Play it for a week, and show your style of roleplay, and we guarantee you will find a home here." We have a player base that is 50/50 ratio of men and women, and a wide age range, so all will find their nitch.

Check it out, you won't be disappointed. We encourage you to visit the website to see the features of this game.
Epitaph is a text based MUD/MMO based in the grim darkness of the zombie apocalypse. We've been under development since December of 2009 - we've been working very hard on it, and we're now ready for our version 1.0 release. We are completely free to play - no sign up fees, no micro transactions. You won't be asked for a penny, now or in the future. We have an 18 age rating though, so if you're younger than that you'll have to wait a while before you can try us out. We're aiming to be a highly accessible game, so those of you with screen readers will hopefully find us welcoming.

You play the role of a survivor thrust into an unfriendly world full of factional interests and diminishing supplies. We have exciting ranged and melee combat, fully featured crafting, clans and achievements for players and clans, deep and involving stealth, and hundreds of unique quests. We have a random events generator that keeps things interesting. We have sound and sight based situational awareness. We have electronics, laptops, mobile phones, and video cameras. We have practise based learning and XP based advancement. We have both local and remote computer hacking. We have a deep, engaging morality system and extensive narrative based gameplay. Introduction Drag(*)nball Z: Epic is a Dragon Ball Z MUD, run on a custom codebase (rather than Smaug or some such). It is an open PVP game, though the primary focus is PVE. Roleplaying is allowed, though not enforced. There is no permadeath, though if you are killed in PVP, you lose some of your Powerlevel. Content The MUD has quite an impressive set of features: multiple types of characters such as Saiyans, Androids, Nameks, Halfbreeds, Icers, Bio-Androids and Demons (Mutants, Genies and Tuffles to be added soon), all the various transformations from the series, and a unique timed system for melee combat that really breaks up the tedium of the usual 'attack mob, wait for it to die, loot mob' combat functionality seen on many other MUDs. There are no automatic hits in this: you must actually pay attention in combat to be able to do well! Due to this system, it is also functionally not possible to bot. Virtually every attack seen in the series is present, though obviously only certain characters can learn certain attacks; eg, only a Namek could use the special beam cannon attack, and only an android can drain energy with their hand. Many character classes have transformations that can be aquired in various ways, further increasing their utility. A custom attack system will be in the works later on. There are currently five planets to go too. Earth, Namek, Arlia, Vegeta and other world such as HFIL, King Kais and snake way. with plans to add in more soon! There is also many different types of eq based off tiers 1-9 and common, rare, legendary. All which add stat increases to your defense and offense. The Dragon Balls are active once every 48 hours and allow for 2 wishes… Player Base Low, for the moment. The MUD usually has from 5-10 people on at most times of the day, and slightly more at peak hours. Those that are on are generally helpful and friendly, especially to newbies, however. I recieved a lot of good advice from people after I joined. Stability The MUD is extremely stable. I have virtually no complaints: there has never been a crash the entire time I've used it. The only down times are the brief (30 seconds-ish) when the MUD is reboot to add in changes. While this might happen a couple times of day, our Coder is very respectful and announces it beforehand and allows players to finish their fights and to save before rebooting. Balance The races ingame are all relatively well balanced; one might expect Saiyans to completely dominate due to the events of the show, but in practice, the character types are extremely diverse. PVP is limited in such a fashion that you may only be attacked by someone who's power level is within a certain amount of yours; this prevents newbie poaching and griefing to an extent. There are also safe zones on Earth that one may go to if they need to idle, or if you just want to chat in the OOC channel. Advancement Grinding up isn't too hard, though it can be easier for some races than others (not significantly enough to unbalance things, however). There is a wide variety of enemies of various strengths to fight, so you shouldn't usually have trouble finding things to beat on. You can group with multiple other characters to take on tough opponents, which helps as well. Summary To cap things off, Drag(*)nball Z: Epic is probably the best DBZ MUD out there at the moment. If you're looking for something a little old school that is a nice challenge, this is the place for you. The Infected City: Once an over populated city, full of life, from animals, children, hobos, straight on through to the tallest buildings owners and executives. Then the plague hit. Out of no where, the people began to fall ill and eventually die. Soon after the Center for Disease Control quarantined the whole city to protect the illness from spreading.

The survivors were left on their own, to survive, or die. There was no escape from the quarantine, if you were inside, you were trapped. Life had to go on, as life will always find a way. Unfortunately, life did find a way, those who had died from the Plague would soon rise from the graves to feast on the living. Life, as it were, had to change.

After 75 years, the survivors inside The Infected City have broken into factions, and fight for food, and supplies. Survival is all that matters, especially since the dead, have their own agenda too.

Can you survive the Hordes of Flesh Eating Zombies, the factions of hostile survivors, and the throngs mazes, puzzles, and horrors that await within?
