Foundation IIr1 installation requires that you have version 5 of perl installed on your machine!!!! To see which version of perl you have, type 'perl -v' at the command line. If you have version 4 or earlier, you must update your perl package. You can get the latest perl package at prep.ai.mit.edu in /pub/gnu. Another problem you might encounter is if your perl package is not in /usr/local/bin. If when running the Configure script, you get a message saying command or file not found, this means perl is somewhere else. To fix this, first find out where perl is by typing "which perl". Then you will need to edit line 1 of Configure to reflect the location of perl. For example, if perl is in /bin, then change line 1 from... #!/usr/local/bin/perl to #!/bin/perl Once these perl issues are out of the way, simply type: ./Configure Answer the questions, and it will install the driver and mudlib for you. After it is installed, type startmud &. The mud will start, then you can telnet to port 4000 of your machine. You will be asked to create an admin character and disconnected. Next time you connect, it will be with a runnning MUD and you at the helm. Finally, one last possible problem, you made need to redefine $MAKE in the Configure program to point to "make" nstead of "gmake".
