Or EvilEye hosting. (http://www.evileyehosting.net) Of course, if you can get your head past the name and see that we have premiere services. *shrug*
Exactly why are your services better than Zano's which has no quote for HD space or RAM usage and which allows database use to free customers again? Oh and before you claim that you didn't say it was let's go to the definition of premiere.
Premiere: alteration of premier
Premier: 1st in position, rank, or importance.

I didn't say it was better in my thread, you must be mistaken, as this is a separate post several days later. Let's look at the defintion of separate, shall we?
1: to become divided or detached 2: to sever an association : withdraw
You don't need to be Zeno to know what you're doing with a MUD host, as he apparently doesn't know why his Usermin doesn't work and didn't even know what phpsysinfo is.. ;)

They advertised Slayn and Zeno in a post about EvilEye's services, but when Labotomy asks about free mud hosts, its against the rules to tell him about EvilEye but it's fine to mention Zeno's? Blatant hypocrisy, right there. Congratulations.

Unfortunately, you seem to have completely missed HK's point. Might I suggest you reread his post, this time paying attention to who he was talking to. (and then maybe apologize)

No one asked you to not mention your services, I was asked to not poke at your usage of the word premiere. Try reading a bit closer the next time you decide it's time to jump down the toroat of someone who was more or less defending you.

Unfortunately, he quoted both of us and was referring to the whole conversation about EvilEye and was saying that should stay over there. I suggest you realize that and accept the fact that you're not always right. And then I'll have your apology.

Banner, you earlier stated that you were not competing with Zeno or anyone else. Then in your newest post, your words could have been seen as a jab at Zeno's hosting, as if it were wholly inferior to your own. Not only that but you made jabs at the community here. That's where the bit of animosity concerning your ad came from.
ALso Banner.. you *do* realize that when you quote a post that has another post quoted, it will put both of them in the quote.. right? It doesn't take a genius to figure out what HK was refering to exactly. Just because your name is mentioned in a quote within a quote doesn't mean that quote within the quote was being referenced.
However you can't say much about people not knowing what they have. You at one poit advertised your stuff as having a 10Mb switch uplink to the net. Switch does nothing to determine your bandwidth. To your credit yo do say where the server is hosted (out of a house), on a cable connection. I actually had all this figured out with less than five minute work before I saw you saying where the server was. Is there some reason you do not state openly, rather than on a subpage as a brief note? I ask because this is rather important since you are charging money, even if it is a one time fee for those who wish to do so.

No, we weren't competing. Until I posted about free MUD host and got attacked from every direction by everyone that doesn't like me. Tough, now you have competition.
ShadowsDawn, you do realize that you can backspace and remove unnecessary stuff from a qote… right? It doesn't take a genius to realize that the backspace has this backspace feature.
No, I never said anything about having any sort of 10Mb switch. If you can quote me as saying this, then go ahead. And yes, EvilEye is hosted at the owner's house. None of the users have complained about -any- problems so far, so apparently it's not a problem. It is stated openly, if you go through the website and look. If you can't carefully read the website(see what I did there?) to achieve the maximum amount of information before signing up, there is little else we can do to help you.

You're reacting with a surprising amount of hostility in the face of somebody who was trying to tone down jabs toward you. Well, suit yourself.

Apparently that's how it works around here. I receive so much of it from everyone else, mostly on Mudbytes, especially you, so I take that as its a dog eat dog world.

Umm… what have I done to you, err, especially to warrant an "especially"? I think the sum total of my interaction with you here has been (1) to remark briefly in the hosting thread (hardly alone on that one) and (2) to point out to you that HK wasn't attacking you (hardly what I'd consider a bad thing to do).
EDIT: oh, and it also seems like I said that assuming one IP == one person is a bad idea.
Apparently that's how it works around here. I receive so much of it from everyone else, mostly on Mudbytes, especially you, so I take that as its a dog eat dog world.
So, here's my theory. People who love to code tend to either already have or develop an eye for "debugging". I'm not saying every coder has a flair for precision…but I think after a while maybe it becomes a habit to spot errors.
In a forum full of coders, you're going to get a little bit of indulgence when it comes to vagueness and inaccuracies, I think. But when it starts looking like these bugs in your posts are either deliberate or knowingly careless, you're probably going to run out of indulgence.
That's my theory. I don't think you're running into some kind of special hostility that makes this a dog eat dog world. I think you've been sufficiently careless for sufficiently long that it's past indulging.
And since part of the problem here is that you're actually *selling* something that has a potentially deceptive label on it of "free", people are going to look very closely.
If you act like your errors are *their* problem, you're really not going to get anywhere, I think.
Taking jabs at me even though I haven't said anything? I guess it's expected from you. You seem to think that just because people aren't nice to you means that you can start taking jabs at random people here.
Usermin is working just fine, thank you very much.

Pretty much everyone -but- Banner hit the nail on the head here about what I had intended, which seemed quite obvious to me.
What I was asking we "drop" is the continuation of attacking Banner's advertising or trying to bring up Zeno's hosting as a counter point to everytime Banner plugs his service. If someone is going to attack someone based on a specific advertisement, I'd prefer to see it stay within the thread that it originated… Well, I'd prefer not to see it at all :p
Drizzt's reply to Banner was specifically in context to what Banner had said, and its very common practice when quoting someone to also include the quote they were replying to for context. If I were replying specifically to Banner to stop advertising his service, I would have quoted -only- Banner and said "quit advertising your service."
As far as my personal opinions about Evil Eye hosting's advertising? I've kept those to myself as part of the "restraint" I've actively latched onto since a lot of the problems between certain individuals have subsided and as we continue to try to build this into a friendly environment. As part of the attempt to help build this forum into a friendly, welcoming community, all I did was simply ask that we try to refrain from chasing people down from other threads and continuing to harp on them.
Despite getting jumped on by Banner for attempting to defend Banner, and due in part of the "restraint" I now try to hold myself to here, I'll simply let this go and not even look for an apology as I would have in the past. I've clarified my intentions, and to keep things civil, I'll be fine with seeing others let this drop as well. I'll know in the future to leave Banner to his own devices if he is being unfairly attacked.
I think we've all learned some important lessons about the type of poster Banner is, and I'll leave it at that.
About this whole deal with people "attacking" Banner, and this being a dog eat dog arena. Uh. All I have to say is: ROFL.
MudBytes isn't a dog eat dog arena. So far the only person I saw launch any form of "attack" was Banner, and that was directed against the person who was trying to defend him, and then turning around and attacking Zeno. I didn't see what Fizban did as an attack, he asked a question, and then provided something to support why he would ask his question. You had said you had premiere services. Premiere is of course, an alteration of premier as Fizban noted, and also as Fizban noted, Premier means first in position, rank, or importance. Thus alluding to being the best "free" host around, when in fact, to get the good packages, EvilEye requires a one-time donation. Which is, in fact, not free. False advertising such as this generally gets all of us up in arms, as Banner has no doubt noticed.

Well, If you think about it, technically they are all stored in the same directory. :P

Thank god for the preview button or I wouldn't have seen this. I'm not sure we'll ever see a complete refrain from chasing "evil-doers" down and berating them in other threads, especially when they wave the banner of whatever they're considered an "evil-doer" over. But we can at least try.
I've given up caring what any of you think about me, despite what I've tried to do for all of you, and so go ahead and attempt to drag me down into the dirt with you all. I don't care.
You can talk to anyone that actually knows me instead of attacking me based on a few assumptions or human errors and they will tell you how I'm actually more than the reverse of what you think of me. But as I said and saw for myself, Zeno's hosting thread is stickied and everyone flamed EvilEye because we offer what you can't for practically free, so I see how it works around here. We open a hosting service and because we don't have big names, big games, and we don't drink with you guys in the pub, we get flamed and shot down and thrown out with the rest of the trash. When I first started my MUD, I never needed more than what EvilEye offers as its free package. I didn't even care about a website or knew what Mysql was back then, and I only got a forum for my own MUD after 4-5 years of administrating one.
This community is -not- friendly and welcoming. I know I'm not the only person that gets attacked for whatever he does, in fact, I could name a few names. Sure, if everyone agrees with you and you kiss ass, then yes, its friendly and welcoming. But the minute someone disagrees with you, the rest of you take it and run and we get a flame war, which is exactly what happened here when I mentioned the hosting service I'm affiliated with. As I said, I do not care. EvilEye's free package is more than you should need to start a MUD. If it's not, you can give a $5 one time donation and then you have a package that is more than what most other mud hosts, even free, will be able to give you. These guys will tell you that its not like that but I really don't care. I know what I'm talking about and I'm not going to argue with you anymore. I'll refrain from posting anymore besides what usual adverts I do, and I apologize for defending myself from attacks. Next time I'll just take it.
I officially resign from your flame war.

I'm not sure how to say this gently, but you've completely misunderstood people's attitude toward you. People aren't hating on you or dragging you down into the dirt. People have disagreed with some things you have said and told you so. That is very different from hating you or thinking you're an evil person. It's one thing to argue in return, but it's another to start indiscriminately blasting people, especially people who try to defend you or at least keep the arguing to a minimum.
Zeno's hosting service has been around for a long time: it has passed the test of time. So, it makes sense that it be kept in a prominent spot. If your service is also a success in the long run, there is no reason to think it wouldn't get stickied either, eventually – assuming the level of antagonism is toned down a little bit.
There's a scene in The Empire Strikes Back when Luke Skywalker is about to enter a strange tree that emanates Force. He asks what it contains, and is told that it contains what you bring into it.
When told he will not need his weapons in the tree, he ignores this advice.
He finds in the tree exactly what he brought in, except moreso.

This community is helpful, it doesn't have to be friendly. And as Cratylus stated:

When you get into an active forum with programmers, this will be the results some of the time. IMHO programmers are perfectionists and abhor small slightly incorrect details and these are usually the beginnings of the flame wars. :alien: It happens.
But I'll say again, this forum doesn't have to be friendly, I don't know anyone on here IRL and I don't drink in a pub with them (nor do I drink alcohol at all) and I do not have a big name or a big game, but whenever I need help, they are here to give it.
