Recently, i came across an issue with mudbytes, and now i'm sharing it with all of you, because it was recommended to me that i post it so that the developers don't forget to tackle this issue.

So, here it is.

When you are submitting a new file, for snippets, and part of it fails, like, the name is already in use in the database, you have to hit the back button, thus losing all the information that you just put in to be submitted, so if you wrote out a large page of details on the submission, and then something silly pops up, and the submission fails, you have to hit the back button, and then rewrite it all again.

So my suggestion to the developers would be that when something fails, you preserve the content of the submission, and just have it appear under the error message, followed by highlighting of what the problem was. so that the person will be able to correct the issue without having to retype out everything and go through all the works all over again.

just my suggestion.

I think this is a browser thing, and not a site thing.

One thing MB could do is instead of taking the user to a new page to give the error, simply have a popup box/window when you click Submit, so then it doesn't navigate away from the page and lose the data.

Workaround until we can fix this properly: For large chunks of text, like the description box, copy the contents to the clipboard on the off chance there's an error. I know, this is a sucky way to do things, but it's how I live with forum submissions on several sites.

Davion has some functions which may help with this sort of thing, so hopefully he'll see this and know how to integrate it. Will probably require javascript of some sort. Might even be AJAX related. I'm sure he can explain better :)
