So I've never really got to know any one from any MUDs that I've played on (which is few) and I haven't talked to any programmers in the U.S. (only over in Europe for some reason?).

Forums are fine and all, but you can't really get to know anyone from them.

Have you ever tried IRC? Might be a good way to chat with programmer types.

There's also intermud chat; MB has one but for various reasons (which will bore and annoy you) most activity has moved to the LP Muds intermud. There have been mumblings about properly unifying them, but that has not yet materialized. Note that you can see MB IMC channels from the LPMud routers, but not vice-versa.

So what are they like a chat-room MUD?

Well, intermud networks (like IMC and I3) join together MUDs that might or might not be actively played. So sure, some MUDs serve only as nodes to the chat network; other MUDs are full-fledged games that happen to be hooked up to the intermud network.

I have the Dead Souls 2 up and running, but it's connected to my local host. Can I still chat between MUDs or should I connect with my IP address?

What do you mean by having DS2 up and running connected to your local host? The MUD should be sitting there not connected to anything. If you turn on intermud (and I thought it was on by default??) you will be able to talk to people on the other MUDs.

The link I gave should have more details, or Crat (who posts here) can say more.

Well, I went to the link you gave me and it showed a list of MUDs. I downloaded the DS2 one. It gave me instructions on how to set the MUD up and change anything I want. Then it told me about the chat function and how I can chat with other MUDs using a certain chat.

I think Ghost means that he connected to his mud at the localhost address; presumably he's running the mud on his personal computer, which (probably) is not open to connections from non-local IPs.

Please note that the different channels have different rules and topics. For example,
swearing is discouraged on dchat, but de rigeur on intergossip. See the rules
section for details: http://lpmuds.net/intermud.html#rules

To add all available channels to yourself: chan add all
See also help for: chan, gag, mute, tell, mudlist, rwho
