Anyone familiar with "Let's Play" videos? Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCCL5ZXPD...

Has anyone considered doing this for a MUD? I just looked up a Let's Play Dwarf Fortress to help me understand the game and I think a Let's Play for various MUDs would be neat. But I don't know if I have a charismatic voice. And I wouldn't want to use my own MUD.

Ha. That would be pretty interesting…I tried to do a few *extremely* basic video tutorials before. I don't think I have any problems with the voice but other things… :P

I'm pretty sure Orrin did a few for Maiden Desmodus.

You'd almost have to go slo-mo for most mud combat. Reading text in videos can be tricky too.

Delerak created an introduction video for GW2 a couple of years ago, that was pretty nice - although it's rather outdated now. Nick Gammon also did at least one MUSHclient demo.

Idealiad: Not really. Check out the Dwarf Fortress ones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5mzqfZF1...
You don't need to read every line.

The main point is to keep it entertaining. You need to get the player interested in it. A monotone tutorial may not be as effective until the player has already become interested in it.

And that would be the hard part. How do you keep someone interested in a video that is doing nothing but scrolling text? Yeah, people that are serious about learning will pay attention but then the problem is that every MUD isn't the same so what you show on the video might only actually be true to a specific amount of MUDs.

It's a good idea but I don't think you can make it generic enough due to the vast differences between what MUDs might have implemented. :(

I know, my grammarz and speeling iz turible

I think this is one of the areas where a flashy client/plugin could really work in your favour. You could show off your soundpack as well, if you've got one.

Perhaps that's not a bad idea though - provide a series of videos showcasing a range of different muds, to show some of the variety out there.
