How can an average town afford to hire a contigent >of super-powerful beings to protect them? Who guards the guards? First thougths: Guards are demons, constricted by various magical means, geases, etc. Guards are akin to Thomas Covenant's, err, Black Watch (?) (which were in turn of course based on the British Gurkhas)? Successfully serving time as a guard is a requirement for the final stages of advancement in the Religion of the Great God GooGoo. Guards are a hive mind. Only one guard at any instant is super-tough (single point of attention/focus), but that focal point can move between guards very quickly. Non-focal guards are sorta wimpy. Ergo, best way to attack guards is en-masse and operate by attrition (cf regimental chess). >Also, houses are designed to keep PCs out. You also then have the option of adding all sorts of campy overtones as the demons bitch and writhe about doing "good" work. -- J C Lawrence Internet: claw#null,net ----------(*) Internet: coder#ibm,net ...Honourary Member of Clan McFud -- Teamer's Avenging Monolith... </PRE> <!--X-Body-of-Message-End--> <!--X-MsgBody-End--> <!--X-Follow-Ups--> <HR> <ul compact><li><strong>Follow-Ups</strong>: <ul> <li><strong><A NAME="00238" HREF="msg00238.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Fear of magic (was:Usability and interface)</A></strong> <ul compact><li><em>From:</em> Sauron <dlove#kusd,kusd.edu></li></ul> <li><strong><A NAME="00232" HREF="msg00232.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Fear of magic (was:Usability and interface)</A></strong> <ul compact><li><em>From:</em> coder#ibm,net</li></ul> </UL></LI></UL> <!--X-Follow-Ups-End--> <!--X-References--> <UL><LI><STRONG>References</STRONG>: <UL> <LI><STRONG><A NAME="00222" HREF="msg00222.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Fear of magic (was:Usability and interface)</A></STRONG> <UL><LI><EM>From:</EM> Derrick Jones <gunther#online1,magnus1.com></LI></UL></LI> </UL></LI></UL> <!--X-References-End--> <!--X-BotPNI--> <UL> <LI>Prev by Date: <STRONG><A HREF="msg00228.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] string parsing</A></STRONG> </LI> <LI>Next by Date: <STRONG><A HREF="msg00230.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Re: Idea: Hive-mind monster</A></STRONG> </LI> <LI>Prev by thread: <STRONG><A HREF="msg00222.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Fear of magic (was:Usability and interface)</A></STRONG> </LI> <LI>Next by thread: <STRONG><A HREF="msg00232.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Fear of magic (was:Usability and interface)</A></STRONG> </LI> <LI>Index(es): <UL> <LI><A HREF="index.html#00229"><STRONG>Date</STRONG></A></LI> <LI><A HREF="thread.html#00229"><STRONG>Thread</STRONG></A></LI> </UL> </LI> </UL> <!--X-BotPNI-End--> <!--X-User-Footer--> <!--X-User-Footer-End--> <ul><li>Thread context: <BLOCKQUOTE><UL> <LI><STRONG>Re: [MUD-Dev] Fear of magic (was:Usability and interface)</STRONG>, <EM>(continued)</EM> <ul compact> <ul compact> <ul compact> <ul compact> <ul compact> <ul compact> <ul compact> <ul compact> <ul compact> <LI><strong><A NAME="00220" HREF="msg00220.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Fear of magic (was:Usability and interface)</A></strong>, coder <a href="mailto:coder#ibm,net">coder#ibm,net</a>, Mon 03 Nov 1997, 00:43 GMT </LI> <LI><strong><A NAME="00224" HREF="msg00224.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Fear of magic (was:Usability and interface)</A></strong>, Derrick Jones <a href="mailto:gunther#online1,magnus1.com">gunther#online1,magnus1.com</a>, Mon 03 Nov 1997, 10:03 GMT </LI> <LI><strong><A NAME="00218" HREF="msg00218.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Fear of magic (was:Usability and interface)</A></strong>, coder <a href="mailto:coder#ibm,net">coder#ibm,net</a>, Mon 03 Nov 1997, 00:42 GMT </LI> <LI><strong><A NAME="00222" HREF="msg00222.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Fear of magic (was:Usability and interface)</A></strong>, Derrick Jones <a href="mailto:gunther#online1,magnus1.com">gunther#online1,magnus1.com</a>, Mon 03 Nov 1997, 08:56 GMT <LI><strong><A NAME="00229" HREF="msg00229.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Fear of magic (was:Usability and interface)</A></strong>, coder <a href="mailto:coder#ibm,net">coder#ibm,net</a>, Mon 03 Nov 1997, 17:45 GMT <LI><strong><A NAME="00232" HREF="msg00232.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Fear of magic (was:Usability and interface)</A></strong>, coder <a href="mailto:coder#ibm,net">coder#ibm,net</a>, Tue 04 Nov 1997, 04:32 GMT </LI> <LI><strong><A NAME="00238" HREF="msg00238.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Fear of magic (was:Usability and interface)</A></strong>, Sauron <a href="mailto:dlove#kusd,kusd.edu">dlove#kusd,kusd.edu</a>, Tue 04 Nov 1997, 21:59 GMT <LI><strong><A NAME="00243" HREF="msg00243.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Fear of magic (was:Usability and interface)</A></strong>, Marian Griffith <a href="mailto:gryphon#iaehv,nl">gryphon#iaehv,nl</a>, Wed 05 Nov 1997, 18:46 GMT </LI> </LI> </LI> <LI><strong><A NAME="00240" HREF="msg00240.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Fear of magic (was:Usability and interface)y</A></strong>, Adam Wiggins <a href="mailto:nightfall#user2,inficad.com">nightfall#user2,inficad.com</a>, Wed 05 Nov 1997, 08:56 GMT </LI> </LI> </ul> </ul> </ul> </ul> </ul> </ul> </ul> </ul> </ul> </LI> </UL></BLOCKQUOTE> </ul> <hr> <center> [ <a href="../">Other Periods</a> | <a href="../../">Other mailing lists</a> | <a href="/search.php3">Search</a> ] </center> <hr> </body> </html>
