This would also seem an excellent extension of the selective targetting I briefly discussed. Have your brawny NPC chaps beat on the attackers, have your weaker/more injured retreat and attack from the rear while they recover (or fetch reinforcements) etc: From: rayb#fc,hp.com (Raymond Bingham) Newsgroups: rec.games.design Subject: Re: combat and hit points Date: 2 Sep 1997 20:11:06 GMT ...deletia... This reminds me of something else that frequently happens. (Especially in traditional Experience point based games). Have you ever noticed how the creatures seldom flee? I'm not talking about a whole group or until you have wittled down a group of orcs, but rather on an individual basis. If I was Orc A in a horde of fifty. And I got hit down to "2 hit points" I certainly wouldn't stick around and try to have the hero hit me for the remainder of them. ;) Even if I had 49 other friends, I would try to retreat and throw rocks or something... :) While it's a feature of poorly governed roleplay, I think it alludes some game masters that creatures would probably try retreat and regroup tactics with sabotage and traps and 'sure thing' attacks rather than attacking one on one. ...deletia... -- J C Lawrence Internet: claw#null,net (Contractor) Internet: coder#ibm,net ---------------(*) Internet: clawrenc#cup,hp.com ...Honorary Member Clan McFUD -- Teamer's Avenging Monolith...

Prev by Date: GURPS v Hero v RuneQuest

Next by Date: Re: [MUD-Dev] Hard Sci-fi muds was Character evolution

Prev by thread: Re: [MUD-Dev] Modeling spells/skills as collections of affects

Next by thread: GURPS v Hero v RuneQuest

Index(es):

Date

Thread

Thread context:

Critical Hits, clawrenc clawrenc#cup,hp.com, Fri 05 Sep 1997, 17:31 GMT

Re: [MUD-Dev] Critical Hits, Jeff Kesselman jeffk#tenetwork,com, Sat 06 Sep 1997, 07:13 GMT

Re: [MUD-Dev] OT: Attributions, Chris Gray cg#ami-cg,GraySage.Edmonton.AB.CA, Thu 04 Sep 1997, 09:41 GMT
Re: [MUD-Dev] Modeling spells/skills as collections of affects, Chris Gray cg#ami-cg,GraySage.Edmonton.AB.CA, Thu 04 Sep 1997, 09:41 GMT
Re: combat and hit points, clawrenc clawrenc#cup,hp.com, Tue 02 Sep 1997, 22:05 GMT
GURPS v Hero v RuneQuest, clawrenc clawrenc#cup,hp.com, Tue 02 Sep 1997, 21:46 GMT
OT: Attributions, Shawn Halpenny malachai#iname,com, Tue 02 Sep 1997, 17:17 GMT

Re: [MUD-Dev] OT: Attributions, Jeff Kesselman jeffk#tenetwork,com, Wed 03 Sep 1997, 04:19 GMT

<Possible follow-up(s)>

OT: Attributions, S001GMU S001GMU#nova,wright.edu, Thu 04 Sep 1997, 15:21 GMT

[ Other Periods | Other mailing lists | Search ]
