How can one express all the numbers in a role-playing game | with the laws of physics. What is "damage"? Is the kenetic energy One could come up with a model pretty easily, but it wouldn't be too realistic, and I doubt I'd bother personally. You can treat the body as a power source with max output per unit time, and kinetic energy of a club therefor rising linearly with the time it is swung pre-impact, and damage proportional to kinetic energy. Perhaps not too bad a model for a mace or club vs an armored foe. But, for example, a rapier vs an unarmored foe can kill with almost zero energy deposited on target, just by piercing the heart or brain, and the tip of a sharp sword can similarly cut an unarmored throat with negligible energy deposited in-target... </PRE> <!--X-Body-of-Message-End--> <!--X-MsgBody-End--> <!--X-Follow-Ups--> <HR> <!--X-Follow-Ups-End--> <!--X-References--> <!--X-References-End--> <!--X-BotPNI--> <UL> <LI>Prev by Date: <STRONG><A HREF="msg00182.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Evil coders from beyond the grave</A></STRONG> </LI> <LI>Next by Date: <STRONG><A HREF="msg00184.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] META: Making the list public?</A></STRONG> </LI> <LI>Prev by thread: <STRONG><A HREF="msg00187.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Source data on Crossbow</A></STRONG> </LI> <LI>Next by thread: <STRONG><A HREF="msg00160.html">Source data on Crossbows</A></STRONG> </LI> <LI>Index(es): <UL> <LI><A HREF="index.html#00183"><STRONG>Date</STRONG></A></LI> <LI><A HREF="thread.html#00183"><STRONG>Thread</STRONG></A></LI> </UL> </LI> </UL> <!--X-BotPNI-End--> <!--X-User-Footer--> <!--X-User-Footer-End--> <ul><li>Thread context: <BLOCKQUOTE><UL> <LI><STRONG>Re: [MUD-Dev] Source data on Crossbow</STRONG>, <EM>(continued)</EM> <ul compact> <ul compact> <ul compact> <ul compact> <ul compact> <ul compact> <LI><strong><A NAME="00206" HREF="msg00206.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Source data on Crossbow</A></strong>, Matt Chatterley <a href="mailto:root#mpc,dyn.ml.org">root#mpc,dyn.ml.org</a>, Sun 20 Jul 1997, 02:26 GMT <UL> <LI><strong><A NAME="00209" HREF="msg00209.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Source data on Crossbow</A></strong>, Caliban Tiresias Darklock <a href="mailto:caliban#darklock,com">caliban#darklock,com</a>, Sun 20 Jul 1997, 08:27 GMT </LI> <LI><strong><A NAME="00210" HREF="msg00210.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Source data on Crossbow</A></strong>, Marian Griffith <a href="mailto:gryphon#iaehv,nl">gryphon#iaehv,nl</a>, Sun 20 Jul 1997, 14:30 GMT </LI> </UL> </LI> </ul> </ul> </ul> </ul> <LI><strong><A NAME="00187" HREF="msg00187.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Source data on Crossbow</A></strong>, clawrenc <a href="mailto:clawrenc#cup,hp.com">clawrenc#cup,hp.com</a>, Sat 19 Jul 1997, 01:28 GMT </LI> </ul> <LI><strong><A NAME="00183" HREF="msg00183.html">[MUD-Dev] Source data on Crossbow</A></strong>, Cynbe ru Taren <a href="mailto:cynbe#laurel,actlab.utexas.edu">cynbe#laurel,actlab.utexas.edu</a>, Fri 18 Jul 1997, 23:07 GMT </LI> </ul> </LI> <LI><strong><A NAME="00160" HREF="msg00160.html">Source data on Crossbows</A></strong>, clawrenc <a href="mailto:clawrenc#cup,hp.com">clawrenc#cup,hp.com</a>, Thu 17 Jul 1997, 08:52 GMT <LI><strong><A NAME="00149" HREF="msg00149.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] META: Making the list public?</A></strong>, Chris Gray <a href="mailto:cg#ami-cg,GraySage.Edmonton.AB.CA">cg#ami-cg,GraySage.Edmonton.AB.CA</a>, Thu 17 Jul 1997, 00:18 GMT <UL> <LI><strong><A NAME="00168" HREF="msg00168.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] META: Making the list public?</A></strong>, clawrenc <a href="mailto:clawrenc#cup,hp.com">clawrenc#cup,hp.com</a>, Fri 18 Jul 1997, 00:33 GMT <UL> <LI><strong><A NAME="00181" HREF="msg00181.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] META: Making the list public?</A></strong>, Brandon Gillespie <a href="mailto:brandon#roguetrader,com">brandon#roguetrader,com</a>, Fri 18 Jul 1997, 22:46 GMT </LI> </UL> </LI> </UL> </LI> </UL></BLOCKQUOTE> </ul> <hr> <center> [ <a href="../">Other Periods</a> | <a href="../../">Other mailing lists</a> | <a href="/search.php3">Search</a> ] </center> <hr> </body> </html>
