Portal to the Plane of Tarterus~
Before you lies an immense silver pool that emits a strong red aura. You
can feel an intense heat rising out of it, and the pungent odor of sulphur
is in the air. Many brave adventurers have ventured into the pool seeking
fame and fortune, but few have returned to tell the horrific tales of what
lies beyond it.

The Plane of Tarterus~
The air here is rank with the nauseating smell of sulphur. Large grey
clouds loom overhead showering the landscapes with a continual hail of
stones. A dull red light seems to drift down from the heavens, allowing
you to just make out an immense black mountain range on the horizon. The
same pool you saw on the plane of mortals lies here, offering you an escape
from your current surroundings.

Road Leading Through the Mountains~
A wide, paved road runs up and through the mountains. Although it is smooth
and well-constructed, the climb is arduous and the sulphur in your lungs
begins to choke you.

The Road Before the Keep~
The road oddly ends abruptly at a steep cliff high in the mountains. The only
new exit is a small, worn path that seems to lead up to a large castle that
looms overhead. Lightning begins to show in the skies and the clouds belch
forth a shower of stone hail.

Entrance to Gargath Keep~
Before you stands an immense keep constructed entirely of black marble. In
the center of the front wall has been built a huge skull, and its gaping
maw serves as a main gateway for the castle. No signs of life can be seen
coming from inside.

Beneath the Murder Holes~
As you pass through the gates and under the gatehouse, you notice four large
murder holes constructed in the ceiling. Fortunately, no one seems to be
manning the pots of boiling oil and lead which you can see simmering above.
The portcullis is raised allowing free entry for any "guests".

The Gatehouse~
This dingy room contains several boiling pots of oil and lead. Two dirty
mattresses have been placed against the walls, and some racks hold weapons.
A large windlass holds the chains for the drawbridge and portcullis.

A Lit Corridor~
The corridor here is lit by large torches and oil lanterns. Several

The Servant's Quarters~
The servants (slaves?) of the mighty Gargath have this room to call their
own. It is humble yet clean. The servants seem to cower in fear at your
approach, and one politely asks if you would like something to drink.

The Jester's Room~
The walls of the interior of this room are covered with colorful and gaudy
tapestries. A large and comfortable-looking bed lies against the far wall.
Several small toys and bizarre contraptions lie on an immense bureau, and a
work table with tools has been placed in the center of the room.

The Kitchen~
The aroma of cooked meat permeates your nostrils as you enter this room. A
large slab of meat has been stuck on a spit and is slowly rotating over a
huge flame. Upon the walls of this room are hung various kitchen tools, and
severak open cabinets house pots and pans.

Upon entering this room, you are hit by a wave of extremely intense heat.
Sweat begins to ooze from your pores. On the walls are hung several suits of
armor and various weapons, all of which appear to be of high quality. Near
the far wall you cannot help but notice an anvil and a fiery oven used to
heat and pound out the strange elements found on the plane of Tarterus.

The Bath House~
This room has been outfitted with several large, golden bathtubs which bubble
up with heated water. The humid air clings to your skin, and you long to be
able to relax in one of the inviting tubs. An immense mirror has been set in
the far wall, showing a reflection of almost the entire interior of the room.

The Golden Rain~
This section of the hallway is continually bathed in a mysterious shower of
golden rain. The drops tickle your skin and then run off into drains that have
been built into the floor. You can hear echoing of footsteps from down the

A Staircase~
Two huge statues serve as supports for a staircase that seems more than 20

The Storeroom~
Several casks of dried meats and fish line the walls of this room, giving it
a rather unpleasant odor. Kegs filled with wine and beer have been stacked on
thier sides. Apparently, this is where Gargath stores various supplies that
are needed at times around the castle.

The Brewery~
Along the walls of this room are several immense barrels lain sideways on
stands. Bushels of several types of common grains are stacked in the center.

The Web Ridden Corridor~
Huge webs have been spun across much of this dusty hallway, making it
difficult to manoeuver. Several small rats skitter at your approach, and you

A truly gigantic web has been spun across the entire end of this hallway. It
seems to pulsate with a green-yellow glow as you approach. You can retreat

The Top of the Staircase~
Upon reaching the top of this staircase, you realize that the stairs behind
you have disappeared! You immediately look around you, and notice exits to
the south, east and west. A large statue placed in the southeast corner seems
to mock you with an evil grin.

A Wide Hallway~
This corridor is lit by huge lamps which hang down from rows of hideous stone
faces that jut out of the walls at even intervals along the hallway. The air

Sand has been thrown across the floor of this room, while several straw

This chamber has a high ceiling along with golden benches that have been set

A huge washing basin and a stack of towels have been placed in the northwest
corner of this room. Many long robes have been hung to dry from a pole that
spans the room near the ceiling. The chamber is otherwise bare except for a
simple bed and dresser.

Two huge silk strips of purple cloth have been hung upon the walls of this
room. A large, gold bedframe contains a very comfortable-looking bed. A
massive bureau made entirely of silver has been set in the corner.

The Altar~
An altar more than fifteen feet in length is covered with bloodstains and 
other dried liquids. Beyond the altar is a massive statue of Merkuul, lord
of bones. In the mouth of the statue a small fire is burning.

A pool of swirling black and grey covers nearly the entire wall of this

On the far side of this room is a huge staircase which leads up to an immense
throne made entirely from bones. The only light comes from two small torches

This room is richly adorned in red and black, and you can assume that no
expense was spared when it was furnished. Many large gemstones have been
placed around a mirror in the west wall.

The walls of this room are covered with murals depicting grotesque and evil
deeds. Purple sashes of silk hang from the ceiling to cover a large bed and
closet.

This room has been completely decorated in shades of deep green. A large,
exquisitely cut emerald has been placed on a stand in the center of the room.

This room contains only a small bed and table. The walls are a dull grey and
you begin to choke on thick clouds of dust. From the ceiling is hung an oil
lamp, which provides a minimal amount of light for the room.

The Court of Gargath, Arch-Duke of Tarterus~
The ceiling of this room appears ro be more than 40 feet high. Four black
marble chairs have been placed in a semi-circle around a massive golden
throne. Fortunately for you, the court of the arch-duke is currently
adjourned.

Sleeping Chamber of Gargath, Arch-Duke of Tarterus~
The entire interior of the room has been coated in gold. A massive black
marble slab serves as a bed near the south wall. A bubbling pool which appears
to be some form of interplanar portal has been opened in the west wall. From
the looks of the furniture and decorations here, it seems as if no expense has
been spared when assuring the comfort of the arch-duke.
