A fissure in the mountainside~
You stand on a small patch of flat land on the moutainside. The ground
before you has cracked open. The stench of sulphur and brimstone emanate from
the fissure, and you can ever so faintly hear what sounds like screams. The
air here seems charged with electricity, and you can feel the hairs on the back
of your neck bristle. There are no birds chirping or winds blowing. Almost as
if time has come to a halt. The sides of the hole seems to have rocks jutting
out from them, forming a makeshift stairwell down.

Inside the fissure~
You carefully climb along the walls of the fissure. The air here is hot,
and seems to be getting hotter the farther down you go. Small puffs of steam
come rising up every now and again, then vanish into nothingness as they
dissipate. You can continue down further into the mountain, or head back up to
the relative safety of the mountain top.

Deeper inside the fissure~
You continue climbing carefully along the walls of this rocky crevice.
Farther down you can vaguely hear what sounds like howls of pain and screams of
anguish. There most definately is something down there, but do you really want
to find out what? You can continue down further into the mountain, or head
back up to the relative safety of the mountain top.

You are very close to the bottom of this makeshift stone stairwell. The entrance above you is nothing more than a small dot of light now. The horrible sounds are growing, both in proximity and volume.
The bottom of the fissure lies below you, or you can head back up the fissure towards the mountain top.

The end of the fissure~
You stand at the bottom of the rocky shaft. The ground below your feet is charred and dry, with no signs of vegetation anywhere. The air is extremely hot and reeks of brimstone and sulphur.
Every now and again the ground cracks open and a jet of steam comes hissing out, like a vaporous snake.
Walls of rock bar your movement to the north, east, and west. To the south the barren field continues, and above you is the stone shaft of the fissure.

You kick a small rock into the water and it just disappears. No ripples, no sounds, it just becomes engulfed in the darkness.
To the north is the field and to the south is the river Styx.

The labyrinth of the pit~
You stand in one of the numerous halls of the labyrinth. Every wall looks the same, dark gray stone, with a cold rock floor. An almost identical hallway stretches off in every direction, each one leading to more hallways.
As you step around, you notice that your footsteps leave no sound. In fact, it is deathly quiet except for your own breathing. Chances are if you screamed for help, no one would ever hear you.
If one isn't careful, they could get lost in these hallways for all eternity.

The end of the labyrinth~
As you come to the end of the hallway you realize that there are no other hallways here. At last you've come to the end of that Hellish maze. In the corner is a stone staircase that leads upwards, towards a black sky.
You can go up towards the dark sky, or west and back into the pit.

High above the pit~
As you reach the top of the stairs you get an attack of vertigo. You stand high above the pit on a small walkway. To either side of you is open space, marred occasionally by a pathway through the pit.
The sky is pitch black, and the wind howls even though there is no wind here. As weird as it sounds, there is a strange order to this place.
Below you is the pit, and to the far west is what appears to be the pit entrance.

The edge of the abyss~
You're in the black space between the courtyard and the abyss. There's an eerie stillness here, as if you're moving between worlds. There aren't any demons here, just a blackness that seeks to consume your very soul.
The courtyard is to the east, and the darkness that is the abyss is to the west.

Right over the abyss~
You stand on a platform made of what appears to be light, hovering silently over the abyss. Demons throw souls into the abyss with great joy, as if feeding an unholy master a screaming supper.
If you could only use one word to describe the abyss, it would be darkness. The abyss is something like a black hole. It absorbs all light, and unfortunate souls, around it, and sends them to an unknown fate.
To the east is the transition area to the abyss, while below you is the abyss itself.

The abyss~
You step off the floating platform into the darkness of the abyss. You begin to fall, faster and faster, until the platform disappears into the void. For the abyss is a limitless hole without end. All cast in fall for eternity.
The funny thing about Hell is that the souls can never die, thus they suffer for eternity. Unfortunately, you aren't a soul. The sheer velocity of the neverending fall sends you into shock, killing you almost instantly.
   Sorry.

The suburbs of Dis~
You're on a nameless street leading away from the main city. It's along this strip that the non-shopping buildings are kept. The road is made of cobblestones, finally a road not made from human remains.
You can see a handful of buildings to the west, and from the exceptionally low traffic here you guess they aren't very important.
You can go west towards the suburbs or east to the city.

The suburbs of Dis~
You continue along the nameless street in the suburbs of Dis. The street is dead silent, you can't even hear the commotion of the main city here. The cobblestone road seems only slightly worn, not much traffic through here.
South of here is a small building with barred windows that looks like a jail. Somewhat ironic when you consider what is Hell, if not a large prison?
You can go east and west along the street, or south to the jail.

The nameless street of Dis comes to an abrupt end here. A tall building stands to the north, it looks to be about three stories tall. A sign on the fence surrounding it says it's an asylum.
To the south is a large gate, beyond which you see many rows of tombstones, a graveyard perhaps?
To the north is the asylum, to the south is the cemetary, and to the east is the nameless street.

You stand in the asylum's courtyard where new inmates are brought in. A massive fence surrounds the area, preventing the escape of prisoners. The screams of the many inmates pierces the silence of the area.
This is a place for the souls whose minds can't comprehend what's happening. Some people, when they see the horrors of the underworld, snap and can't appreciate their suffering. This is where those souls are brought.
The asylum lobby is to the north, and the nameless street to the south.

You enter into the lobby of Hell's insane asylum. This asylum is much like turn of the century asylums in that it's more like a torture chamber. Demons strap "patients" to racks and proceed to beat the sanity into them.
The room was once hospital white, now it's red with the blood of the inmates. A small L shaped counter lies against the wall. To the east is the first ward for the crazy souls.
You can go south to the exit, or east to the wards.

The lobby is to the west, while the violent ward is up from here.

You stand in a ghoulish prison cell. Rats and roaches run along the floor, a floor which is sharp and jagged, allowing no rest. There is no bed or sink, just a dark cell made for the sole purpose of torturing those imprisoned here.

The only exit is back west, to the main prison.
