Tunnel Through the Dragonspires~
Large stalactites and stalagmites fill this abandoned tunnel. Thick
cobwebs drape down from the ceiling above adding to the feeling of a
cramped corridor. Sconces line the walls, each holding an unlit torch.
The sound of dripping water echoes throughout the chamber and down the
tunnel to the east. To the east the tunnel runs through the heart of the
mountains and into darkness. The western portion of the tunnel has
collapsed and several large boulders block exploration in that direction.

Barrels, empty crates and rusty wagon wheels line the sides of this wide
passage, possibly from past caravans passing through here. Puddles of
water cover the floor giving the tunnel a musty smell and a very damp
feeling. Shattered lanterns litter the ground here and there, covered in
rust and completely unusable. Every few moments a rock breaks free from
the ceiling and smacks into the stone floor below, sending a loud
cracking sound echoing down the tunnels.

This deep into the earth, lanterns or other sources of light are required.
It appears that once a lantern's life was at an end, its owner simply
tossed it aside. From the layer of rust on these, it is clear they have
been lying in this state for many years.

The tunnel widens a bit here, allowing passage for at least five wagons
to pass through side by side. Wagon ruts have been worn into the stone

fragments of wood. Off to the east a dim light fills the tunnel,
breaking through the blackness of the cavern.

covered in dust and rust. Off to the north the tunnel is slightly

Northern Slope of the Dragonspires~
The sheer wall of the Dragonspire mountains rise up to the south of you,
their massive rock forms peering out over various ledges. Small climbing
spikes still remain implanted into the rocky walls and small strands of
rope still hang from them. To the north a road begins to make its way
through the rows of sand dunes which span out before you.

Black Wastes - Desolate Road Across the Wastes~
Rolling sand dunes rise up on each side of the road here, blocking your
view over them. The road is completely barren and no signs of life can
be seen at all. Large boulders peek out from beneath mounds of sand
along the road side. To the south the sheer walls of the Dragonspires
rise up while to the north the road heads deeper into the wastes.

Black Wastes - Desolate Road Across the Wastes~
A crumbling stone wall lines the eastern and western sides of the road
here, heading off towards the north. The road is quite worn from years
of use and you notice fairly fresh wagon ruts in the road's surface.
Lying just off the side of the road to the west are the skeletal remains
of a large horse; its bones partially covered by sand. The road
continues to the north and south, running its course through the
wasteland.

E
crumbling wall~
A low wall made of a mixture of stones prevents movement off the road and
into the sands to the east and west. The wall has been exposed to the
elements for many years; the stones now seem to be falling out of their
man-made structure.
~
E
road~
The road through the desert is partially covered with several inches of
soft sand. Where you can see the road surface, signs of heavy use are
plentiful. Ruts made by a wheel of some sort still lie on the surface of
the sand; something passed this way not long ago.
~
E
skeleton horse~
The skeleton of a horse lies off to the west side of the road; those
bones not covered by the sand have been bleached white by the sun and
elements.

Black Wastes - Desolate Road Across the Wastes~
Low sand dunes give you a clear view of the surrounding area. Crumbling
stone structures dot the landscape to the northwest. To the east the
road begins to rise a bit, like it were gently climbing a hillside. Off
to the northwest a long mountain range rises over the horizon over which
dark clouds hang. South of you, the road heads towards the dark shadows
of the Dragonspire range.

Black Wastes - Desolate Road Across the Wastes~
Boulders of a blackish, volcanic rock lie on and along the road. A
constant wind blows across the sandy terrain sending a barrage of sand
particles at your face. Blackened tree stumps can be seen just off the
road to the north and south of here. The road continues to the east and
west through the mounds of sand dunes.

E
tree stump~
The trunks of what were once great trees stand now dark and lifeless.
Some conflagration burned them down, leaving only the blackened trunks as
reminders.
~
E
boulder volcanic rock~
Half a dozen huge boulders lie off to the eastern side of the road, and
another four to the west. These chunks of minerals are dark and pourous,
and appear to be of volcanic origin.
