Deianeira and the Centaur Nessus~
a very beautiful painting, one of Guido Reni best After twelve successful years in Rome where he deepened his knowledge of Raphael and antique sculpture, Reni returned to Bologna where he settled in 1614. His powerful and elegant classicism came to the fore in four works on the story of Hercules, painted between 1617 and 1621 for the Villa Favorita built by the Duke Ferdinand Gonzaga near ~

The Virgin and Child with St. John the Baptist, known as La Belle Jardinire painting~
this "Belle Jardinire", which takes its nickname from the pastoral background, is one of the most famous of Raphael's Florentine-period Madonnas (1504-1508). The period was an important one for the young artist from Urbino, who abandoned his master Perugino's manner for a classicism influenced by his study of Leonardo, Michelangelo and Fra Bartolomeo. With its gentle "sfumato"and pyramidal~

The Entombment Painting~
if the name of Venice is suggestive of the triumph of colour in painting, it is due to Titian. After an early period under the influence of Giorgione, who painted the Concert Champtre in the Louvre, Titian reached maturity with a series of works in which classical rigour is allied to the effects of a "chromatic alchemy", which soon became paramount. The Entombment was painted for the Gonza~

this superb royal purchase of 1751 presupposed the foundation of a museum in the Louvre, given that such a work with its eminently evangelical tone -Jesus purifying a sacred place of material and pagan corruption- could hardly serve as a palace decoration. #nThe Entrance to the #cL#Co#cu#Cv#cr#Ce#n~
The "Grand Louvre" constituted the realisation of an earlier project, which involved devoting the
entire Palace to the function of a museum, whilst modernising and improving the presentation of the collections.
Covering an area of some 40 hectares right in the heart of Paris, on the right bank of the Seine,
the Louvre offers almost 60,000 m of exhibition rooms dedicated to preserving items representing
11 millennia of civilisation and culture. The "Grand Louvre" is also a cultural unit which has a
didactic role towards the public, a role which it fulfils through lectures, audiovisual and interactive
productions and very many printed publications which are available in the exhibition rooms or at the bookshop under the pyramid.
