Road Through the Plains~
A wide road paved with flat chunks of blue-gray flagstone runs east-west
through a peaceful stretch of farmland. Fields of corn and soybeans stretch
to the northern and southern horizons, while to the east the occasional
stands of oak thicken into a deep forest. The road leads west to the high
walls of Midgaard.

them. To the west, the road runs through bucolic farmland; to the east, it

Road in the Forest~
The trade road, paved with rounded cobblestones, cuts through a dense
deciduous forest here. Branches interlock above the road to form a thick
canopy, which filters out most of the light coming from overhead. Dark
mosses grow on the trunks of the trees. A bridge is visible to the west,
and a faint path leads through the trees to the north. The road continues
to the east.

Road through the Forest~
The road here is wide, made of dirt, and coated in twigs, leaves, and
hardy little weeds. Every few feet, a couple of cobblestones are still in
place, but most of the road doesn't even show the potholes where the cobbles
used to be. The surrounding forest is an even mixture of conifers and
deciduous trees, with even the occasional redwood standing tall in the
distance.

Road through the Forest~
A thick forest composed mainly of pine trees and skyscraping redwoods
surrounds the wide dirt road. Scrub brush and weeds cluster thickly at the
edges, and the center is marked by two parallel grooves. The road slopes
uphill to the east, where a line of mountains rises up against the horizon.
To the west, the forest seems to turn a lighter shade of green. An inviting
wooden building stands in a small clearing on the south side of the road.

Road through the Foothills~
Dark basaltic gravel covers the road bed as it runs over a series of
foothills. Thick clumps of pine trees cluster in between open areas of
grass and wildflowers, and the chirps of songbirds carry for great distances
in the clear air. The road bends in a wide circle, continuing south and
west, while a fainter path climbs eastward.

Road through the Foothills~
Thick grasses and brambles cover the steep slopes of the surrounding

direction to meet them. Northwards, the road descends through the
foothills.

Road over the Mountains~
The road here is little more than a worn stone path between weathered
granite outcrops. Small pine trees cling determinedly at odd angles to
cracks in the rock, and lichens cover the southern faces of the boulders.
Far below to the west, the greenish haze of a thick forest is visible; to
the east, the road climbs further up the mountains. A small path wanders
off to the north.

Mountain Pass~
A faint path winds its way between rugged mountain peaks. The air is
cool and thin, and patches of snow lie in the shadows of the rocks. Below
to the west, puffy cumulus clouds scuttle by, halting to swarm at the edge
of the mountain range. To the east, tawny desert sands spread out to a deep
blue ocean in the distance.

Road over the Mountains~
The road here clings precariously to a jagged wall of rock, obviously not
of natural origin. On the other side of the path, a steep descent leads to
a jumbled pile of very sharp rocks. The amorphous faces of fractured quartz
pebbles sparkle underfoot, and large, dull chunks of feldspar protrude from
the mountain face. The road climbs into the mountains to the west, and to
the east, the foothills and a vast expanse of desert stretch out below you.

Road in the Foothills~
Small erosion gullies run downhill away from the packed dirt and gravel
of the road bed at regular intervals here. Rounded, bristling cactuses and
thick-leaved yucca plants grow between strewn boulders, and dry tumbleweeds
scuttle across the sands. The road descends into the desert to the east,
and climbs in slow switchbacks up the mountains to the west.

Shifting grains of sand cover the hardened surface of the road as it

Waves of heat rise from the sands all around you, obscuring the distant

Road through the Desert~
A thick drift of sparkling quartz sand covers the road here. Small,
squat cactuses grow alongside the way, and taller columnar forms grow
further off to the side of the path. To the east, the city walls of New

To the west, the desert stretches to the horizon.
