It is obvious to you that this is where the richer denizens of this city reside, as close to the temple as possible, for many of the houses and shops seem almost luxurious in nature, and quite a few of the owners seem to have tamed tarns resting on their roofs. ~ 0 0 1 D0 ~ ~ 0 -1 17043 D1 ~ ~ 0 -1 17053 D2 ~ ~ 0 -1 17041 D3 ~ ~ 0 -1 17052 S #17043 The Central Road~ As you get closer to the great temple, the shops give way entirely to purely residential buildings, of such lavishness that they seem to vie with the great temple itself for sheer beauty and extravagence. Many slaves can be seen through the windows, cleaning the house and seeing to the needs of their masters. ~ 0 0 1 D0 ~ ~ 0 -1 17044 D1 ~ ~ 0 -1 17055 D2 ~ ~ 0 -1 17042 D3 ~ ~ 0 -1 17054 S #17044 Before the Great Temple~ A large courtyard lies before the great temple, filled with worshippers of the Priest Kings, as well as with their slaves, and the warriors of this land. Priests come and go from the temple, dressed in luxurious robes. ~ 0 0 1 D0 ~ ~ 0 -1 17045 D2 ~ ~ 0 -1 17043 S #17045 Within the Great Temple~ The Gilded entryway to the great temple seems extravagent to the extreme, and this does not change as you move further into the temple, as the walls are covered in finely painted murals, dotted with precious gems and metals. Within the temple is the wealth of many nations, made into stunning statues and murals. ~ 0 12 1 D0 ~ ~ 0 -1 17048 D1 ~ ~ 0 -1 17047 D2 ~ ~ 0 -1 17044 D3 ~ ~ 0 -1 17046 S #17046 A Gilded Ante Chamber~ Just to the left of the entrance is a short tunnel leading to a bell shaped chamber, with walls covered in solid gold. Several priests kneel hear, praying to the Priest kings for aid, power, wealth, or anything else they want or need. ~ 0 0 1 D1 ~ ~ 0 -1 17045 S #17047 An Ante Chamber~ A small reception room waits to the right of the temple hall, where visitors can wait for a priest to meet them, before they are taken deeper into the temple for whatever reason they came here. This room is pleasently furnished, though certainly not as lavishly as the rest of the temple, almost as if it is designed to put the visitors in their place. ~ 0 0 1 D3 ~ ~ 0 -1 17045 S #17048 The Altar~ Beyond the central hall, past the chairs and the statues, an altar sits upon a raised dias. Made from some strange grey stone, the altar is almost plain in comparison to the rest of the temple, although the items placed upon it are as lavish as anything else in the temple. Gem studded cloths and gold chalice's. ~ 0 0 1 D0 ~ ~ 0 -1 17049 D2 ~ ~ 0 -1 17045 S #17049 The High Priests room~ Behind the altar is a large, luxuriously furnished room, where the high priest can wait prior to performing any religious ceremonies. At the back of the room, a spiral staircase leads upwards to the higher levels of the temple. ~ 0 0 1 D2 ~ ~ 0 -1 17048 D4 ~ ~ 0 -1 17050 S #17050 The Dome Room~ At the top of the spiral staircase, you find yourself in a vast domed room, where great pictures adorn the walls, a vast map of the lands of Gor, with the mountain of the Priest Kings at it's centre. Sounds echo strangely in this room, and travel all around the edge. You can hear the whispered conversations of the priests standing by the wall opposite you, as if they were stood beside you, and the sound of your clothes rustling echoes around the room before returning to you magnified greatly. ~ 0 0 1 D2 ~ ~ 0 -1 17051 D5 ~ ~ 0 -1 17049 S #17051 The Temple Balcony~ Stepping out of the Dome room, you are surprised to find yourself on a large balcony, overlooking the city. The temple courtyard is easily viewed from this great height, as is most of the city, as you look out to the great walls and into the plains beyond. Several priests gather here to discuss matters of importance, and to view the city with impunity. ~ 0 0 1 D0 ~ ~ 0 -1 17050 S #17052 A Cloth Shop~ This shop sells only the finest silks and cottons for the ladies of this great city. The shopkeeper looks at you with some disdain, before walking over to enquire as to whether you need any assistance ~ 0 0 1 D1 ~ ~ 0 -1 17042 S #17053 The Armoury~ The Men of this great city generally dress in leather armour, and carry great swords or spears. It is in fine shops such as this one that they buy such items, although only the richest of men could purchase the finewares from this shope. ~ 0 0 1 D3 ~ ~ 0 -1 17042 S #17054 A small Palace~ This large house is almost a palace in it's lavish furniture, marble walls and gilded columns. Great open spaces reveal many slaves, and open pool areas where the residents and their visitors can relax. Veiled ladies cross by you, looking at you with barely concealed interest. ~ 0 0 1 D1 ~ ~ 0 -1 17043 S #17055 A Large House~ This large house is obviously the home of a wealthy man, for it is decorated with great murals and tapestries, the solid wooden chairs are lined with the softest of materials, and are a pleasure to sit upon. Slaves go about their duties in silence, pausing only to check upon their masters visitors, bringing wine and fruit at their behest. ~ 0 0 1 D3 ~ ~ 0 -1 17043 S #17056 The Western Road~ This narrow roads winds westward, into a less affluent area of the city. The walls are crumbling, and there are holes i nthe roof, where water leaks through. ~ 0 0 1 D2 ~ ~ 0 -1 17058 S #17060 A small Hovel~ A poor family lives in this one room hovel, 6 people living together in tight cramped quarters, with barely enough money between them to feed themselves. The walls are dirty, with many areas where they have had repairs done to them. The roof is whole, which they owners give thanks for, as it keeps the weather of them. ~ 0 0 1 D0 ~ ~ 0 -1 17058 S #17061 A small House~ This small but cosy house looks terrible from the outside, but within it is quite pleasent, the owner has one slave to maintain the house in some state of respectability, and the womens rooms are securely locked away at the rear of the house. ~ 0 0 1 D2 ~ ~ 0 -1 17057 S #17062 A small Inn~ Many men sit around the tables in this inn, talking of past times, and drinking heavily of the watered down ale. They are a dirty bunch, the scum of the earth, but they pay little attention to you, as they shout and jeer at their friends. ~ 0 0 1 D0 ~ ~ 0 -1 17057 S #17063 A house~ This house is rather dirty, yet sturdily made, and well maintained. Several slaves move around it, looking after the owner, his women, and the house. This is the house of a man who is working his way up the social ladder, and is close to leaving this area of the city. ~ 0 0 1 D0 ~ ~ 0 -1 17056 S #17064 A large Inn~ This large inn is filled with many men, yet no women. They are all sitting around large tables, eating the food supplied, and drinking of the ale and wine. Most are talking amiably, although here and there the occasional heated argument breaks out, although there seems to be little evidence of any fights occuring here. ~ 0 0 1 D2 ~ ~ 0 -1 17056 S #17065 The Eastern Road~ The eastern road makes the way deeply into the merchants distract, with stalls and shops all around, almost as if the road itself was one great marketplace. Most of the buildings along here are storehouses, for all of the selling is done from open stalls, under the open sky and the heat of the sun.
