Q: I've heard alot of talk about IMC2 but what is it?
A: IMC2 is an intermud communication protocol.
Q: OK. So what does an intermud communication protocol offer me?
A: It lets you connect your mud to a network of other muds, from all over the world. The purpose is to provide somewhere to discuss whatever comes to mind. Politics, religion, life, muds, and in general whatever people want to talk about. The service is provided via several servers, or routers, which connenct the network together. New MU*'s are encouraged to join in.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: There is no cost. IMC2 is free. Free as in speech, and free as in beer :)
Q: Well then can I use it?
A: If your codebase supports it, then yes. In fact, your codebase may already have a client included. If so, then connecting is as easy as adjusting a few simple configuration values. If not, then it may be possible to install one of the pre-existing clients that are ofered here. If your codebase is not compatible with these, then we also provide documentation on the protocol itself so you can develop your own client if you wish.
Q: There are other networks out there why should I join yours?
A: Well it's all a matter of choice. The MudBytes Intermud Communication Network is operated in a democratic fashion. Does this mean mob rule? No. It means that all members are treated fairly, and equally, and nobody is above anyone else. Members are encouraged to discuss whatever they wish, as loudly as they wish, provided their activities do not cross into damaging the network. We also do not insist that you apply to connect ( provided your code is new enough ) before joining.
Q: I'd like to take a look at IMC2 but my codebase doesn't come with it. Can I try it before installing the code?
A: Yes. We have a mini-mud setup where you can connect and try out IMC2. See the information link for Talon for more details.
Q: Well I'm sold how can I get on The MudBytes Intermud Communication Network?
A: If your codebase already has IMC2 installed, then you should visit the connection info link to the right and select a server which suits you. The addresses and ports are listed on that page. If your codebase does not have it installed, then you will need to have a coder install the package ( or develop one ) and then connect using the information provided.
Q: I'm already on an IMC2 Network can I join yours too?
A: If your IMC2 client supports multiple network connections, then yes - with one condition. If in doing so it causes the network to merge with another network, you will need to alter your code to prevent this from happening. If your client does not cause this to happen, then you can connect yourself to as many networks as it will support.
Q:I am already a member of the I3 network. Can I stay on that network too?
A: Yes, I3 uses a different protocol and connection method and is not aware of IMC2.
Q: I have more questions that you haven't answered here what should I do?
A: There is a forum on this site which you can use to post any other questions you need answered. The developers of the protocol all frequent this forum and are generally available at all times. Try to be as detailed as possible and include any error messages you might be receiving when posting.
