I happened to be looking at that license earlier today myself, and I didn't think that RaM would infringe on RoM. Now that you've mentioned it I can see how Russ may well disagree, and Russ's opinion would be the one that mattered here.
But I love the symmetry of ROM/RAM; perhaps if RAM stood for something else?
I do like RAM as our acronym. We could always call it "Rivers After MUD", or even "Rebuilding Another MUD" if need be. Is Russ still around, and does anyone know his email address these days? We could always ask. Even if the name isn't the best, he might be happy to see people still interested in his work.
You should probably contact Russ if you're not sure, but I suspect the reason for the clause is that he doesn't want other peoples' work being mistaken for his.
I can understand his stance, having personally taken a lot of flak for problems with the GodWars 2000 and GodWars 2006 derivatives, which people mistakenly assume were created by me. I was also rather unimpressed with the stock GW mud which opened under the name "God Wars 2", as well as the developmental Smaug/GW hybrid which was planning to open under the name "God Wars 3".
Going through the license faq that I have up here:
http://glittervine.infinitehosting.net/#...
I came up with a problem when reading this line:
Mud may not be named Rivers of Mud, Rom, or any
derivative thereof.
One more thing to address at the roundtable
tonight.
