[ichat] Dace@ASJGames: coupla issues with the new forum skin

[ichat] Dace@ASJGames: first, it makes text a lil hard to read when it's on the dark blue background on alternating msgs
[ichat] Dace@ASJGames: secondly, it makes emoticons look funny, as the QSF emoticons aren't properlly bordered =P
[ichat] Dace@ASJGames: also
[ichat] Dace@ASJGames: the ashlander skin doesn't show emoticons
[ichat] Dace@ASJGames: see, this is why I use a single skin for my forums

[ichat] Dace@ASJGames: because it's an incredible amount of work to make every change you make compatible with all skins >_<
[ichat] Zeno@SmaugInstitute: Samson isn't on, dude. =P

How about a setting for posts per page? I was looking at the memberlist and wanted to make it show more per page, then thought it'd come in handy when we get long threads.

Yeah. That should be an option in your profile. Posts per page. It'd be useful.

Ask and ye shall receive. The dark text was the result of CSS that hadn't been caught yet. Should be fixed. If anything else odd comes up, let us know.

You also now have 2 new options in your member control panel under preferences. Should be fairly obvious. One to govern how many topics show up per forum, the other for how many posts show up in each topic. The members list doesn't really need it, the alphabetical links are generally more than enough even for large forums.

And Dace, the plan is to cut this all to one skin eventually. Ashlander has already been pulled since I only wanted it as a temporary alternative to the QSF default. But even the QSF default will disappear when the time comes.

Attached files now have an updated template to help them stand out better.

That's cool, Samson.. but since setting either of those to 0 will make that one use board defaults, what are the board defaults?

Oh, and any chance you'll be throwing up some 'stock' avatar images for us? ;)

20 topics per forum, and 15 posts per page.

And I'll see about grabbing some avatars too :)

Ah, thanks, now we all know.

Now that would be cool.

Got another suggestion.. could we get the little folder icon on the main screen to look differently when there are new posts in that folder?

There's actually a bug in the forum code itself that's not updating the folder symbols on the main page. I don't think anyone had thought to generate a forum with deep subforums below it and so the unread markers that change the folders into the ones with the blue star over them don't filter upward to the top of the tree. I posted the bug on the QSF homepage but it's not a part of the code I'm familiar enough with to fix.

Ah, now I understand. Hopefully someone will post a solution soon then, at least the blue stars do show up on the forum folders when there are new posts only a thread in though. :)

Yep. They also show up if you navigate down a bit. You'll see them eventually. :P

Justice has supplied us with a possible fix for the unread topic markers. We aren't sure yet if it's working as planned, so if you happen to drop by and notice stars on the top level of the forum, can you navigate through to what it says you haven't read and confirm if you have in fact not read it?

Well… Midboss posted a reply to someone in the Diku-Merc-Rom forum. Noticed the star at the root level. Appears to be working to me.

I'd have to concur with Justice on this one, it does appear to be working. :)

Ok, some queries regarding the new look…

Can we shift some of the header block stuff together? Maybe the top charts could be brought to the same block/section with the "Stats", and maybe recent posts could be in the same section with recent uploads? (I mean side by side on these, not actually merged)..

We have a rather strange "Someone" listed as an affiliate…

Does the whole header need to be redisplayed with each navigational click? maybe most of it could be just on the "Home" page?

Do we need for each previous post that included a snippet to be manually moved by the poster to the code repository section?

I think that's it for now.. sorry to be critical, but it really is meant constructively.

I'm not sure what you mean by "side by side". Do you mean move the "top posters" and "top uploaders" boxes in order next to each other? One on top of the other? I assume the same for "recent posts" and "recent uploads" being next to each other. If you mean side by side across the display, then no. The layout would bitterly complain about that.

Mr. Someone is a placeholder until we get someone to replace him. For now he's it :P

What do you mean by the "whole header"? This isn't a framed layout, so if I'm understanding you right, yes. The entire page gets redisplayed every time. And no. We will not switch to frames either :)

No. Previously attached files in posts do not need to be manually reloaded, they have already been converted. Although at this time the upload counts are wrong and will need to be fixed.

This is really picky and stupid, but while viewing forums, the W3C button at the bottom of the page for CSS compliance reports some errors. I beleive the ellipsis that is used is part of the CSS3 specification, but apparently the validator that the link points to is for 2 or less. Submitting the file to a css3 validator ( http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/valid... ) produces other errors, but the ellipsis errors are gone.

In addition, http://www.mudbytes.net/index.php?a=file... doesn't validate as valid xhtml. If help cleaing the CSS is needed, I'd be happy to help in any way possible.

Like I said, picky and stupid.

When you click on a post in the recent post section should it not take you to that post instead of the begining of the thread?

Yeah, I was hoping it could be done as something like:
Stats Top Posters Top Uploaders
stat poster(#) Uploader (#)
stat poster(#) Uploader (#)
stat poster(#) Uploader (#)

so that it wouldn't be quite so far to scroll down to the actual site content.

Ah, then I guess, at least for awhile.. or at least until you publicly declare what it takes to become an affiliate.. we just need to get used to his patronage. ;)

Well, do we have to have the whole top poster, top uploader, recent post list, recent upload list, etc above every page of the site? Is there no way to put those just on the front page or maybe move it all to below the content section?

Also, on a side note, it seems that when you click on a recent post from the recent posts section, it takes you to the first post in that thread, even if there are multiple pages to the thread. :(

Oh, ok, I hadn't seen my snippet in there yet, I'll just have to look again.

Sorry to be so full of complaints, hopefully they're being taken as ideas/suggestions.. ;)
