So, I noticed on the 1st that the ROM FAQ went down. I thought it might be some sort of April Fool's joke, but alas, now it's really really gone. My browser had some of it cached, but that got lost after a power outage. Even though I generally -do- know what I'm doing, I've always found it to be a good resource to look back to and have had it bookmarked for years.

Does anyone still have a copy of its contents? I would be more than happy to post it on my own website for future users, along with any other reference material that might be appropriate.

Where was it at?

It was hosted at www.hypercube.org/tess/rom/faq/ for a LONG time, as far back as I can recall. I suppose I could try googling that wayback machine thingy and getting a cached copy to repost. :D

Got it! I have now posted the ROM FAQ at http://www.nacave.com/romfaq. All internal links have been updated and it seems to be working properly.

Considering that the FAQ hasn't been updated since 1998, and a number of links are defunct, etc, would anyone like to give some suggestions on new or updated content for the FAQ? I'm happy to maintain it as well.

I've added your site to dmoz, would you mind changing the title from <title>Untitled Document</title> to <title>ROM FAQ</title> or something?

The only other ROM resource I know of is here: http://www.fataldimensions.org/romcoding...

The fataldimensions.org site apparently used to hold snippets, but it appears useless now.

The only other thing left I know of is an archive of the rom mailing list: http://blog.gmane.org/gmane.games.devel....

Something of interesting might be in the rom section of the code repository: http://www.mudbytes.net/index.php?a=file...

I'll try to remember that in the morning. For now, I'm happy that the resource could be saved :D

Also, is the list now defunct? I'd sent a mail to re-join, but never got any confirmation. If that's the case, I can look into starting another mail list.

Code repository is definitely going in there :D

there's always http://web.archive.org to recover old sites… sadly not all are archived. But in this case it would have helped ;)

Oh, and of course tonight -would- be the night that I realize that I forgot to put the new CC info into my host's system in order to keep my web server going. It's updated now, and the ROM FAQ is still there, but stupid bank mergers and my own thoughtlessness might have it down for a day.

Whoopsie!

Anyway. I'll get everything updated as we go, and in the meantime, I'm happy to still get suggestions on better resources than the old site had.

There's a ROM forum here on MudBytes, I doubt there's enough critical mass left to start a rom specific mailing list.

Titles are updated on the pages, now that I'm back from all my traveling and craziness. I'll probably put up a few cross-posts around the MUD world for suggestions on new resources or updated links, or even just better information, including in the ROM forum here.
