Which of the two is the best for mudding?

Courier New. It scales better, and overall is a much better font.

I kinda thought this was obvious since most Terminals, MUD Clients, and even Windows Telnet use Courier New….

I prefer Courier New as well.

Is this related to your mud font idea?

Lucidia Console…. or a real vt220 terminal, which has the vt220 font.

Looks like courier new is the winner.

Yes, still brainstorming and trying out various ideas. Currently playing around with using two 8x14 characters (default size 10 font) to create a combined 16x14 symbol, which allows doing neswud roads and rivers (rivers having rounded corners) using 32 slots of the available 127. Using this approach it's also possible to add ne nw sw and se using 64 slots.

Is it possible to display the font in such a way that the characters have no space between them, either vertically or horizontally? I think that would look better.

Pretty much all terminal emulators do so by default, I think it's more of a browser thing to mess with the horizontal and vertical spacing.

It looks like Courier New is a true type font, which makes it more difficult to edit than Courier. Also a pain in the ass to find a good bitmap font editor for Windows.
