The Cleft of Dimensions is probably the best MUD that currently
exists. While we've been around since 2000, we've recently kicked
things into high gear.

http://cod.mudmagic.com/

We are the best because the staff spends all their time trying to
figure out how to make playing the game as fun as possible. We have
diverse and challenging quests, and we have tons of them. Our
character classes are actually different from each other. Combat is
interesting and balanced. The game world is an amalgamy of areas
from all sorts of video games plus original areas. And I really do
mean all sorts: Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana, Earthbound, Tactics
Ogre, Super Mario World, Mega Man, Ocarina of Time - even things as
esoteric as Zork and River City Ransom. We have roleplaying, we have
holiday events, we even have the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo.

We're the only game in the world where you, an alien, and some
oysters can team up to fight superpowered pokemon. There's no other
MUD where'd I'd rather spend my time, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

In case you weren't sure why you should play the Cleft of Dimensions, here's some good examples of how we're different from the competition, presented in a list format for easy digestion!

* Our areas and races are inspired by classic console RPGs, for that tasty nostalgia flavor.
* Our tutorial area is custom-made for our game. Some players have said it's the best they've seen.
* All but a handful of our skills skills and spells are completely original and home-made.
* None of our classes are stock, and each one was developed from the ground-up with a particular playstyle in mind.
* Our staff spends all their time trying to figure out how to make the game more fun, especially for new players.
* New content gets added all the time at ALL level ranges, not just for people who are already max level.
* Once you get to level 100, you get to 'remort' and start over with an expanded race selection and the option to carry over one skill to your new character.
* We have a very straightforward 'talk' command that lets you converse with just about every NPC and even monster in the game.
* Quests are more than 'kill six snow moose' or 'fetch the macguffin'. A treasure map, a scavenger hunt, and an escort assignment and are all doable – at level 1 in the starting town!
* Mobs do more than passively fight in melee; lots have a custom fight script. Bosses are exceptionally complex. Some aren't even fought conventionally, but have to be shot with cannons, pushed off a cliff, etc.
* We have a wiki that spills out all sorts of information about the game, and it isn't clogged with a tiny article for each individual skill, either.

Come and play! You will probably be pleasantly surprised.
