Alright this will make your races based on alignment. First off what you need to do is have it so alignment is picked before races. I have alignment and stats one of the first things you do on my character creation. It may take a little work to fit into your MUD because I am converting this to Rom based on my memory. I originally wrote this for my MUD which is based off of NiMUD code. So if you need help converting this to Rom more then I already do then send me an email I will do what I can to help. Anyways if you use this code please email me and let me know and also if you want to you can give me some credit*hint hint* :p although I dont require you to do that. Please email me though if you use this so I know I am not wasting time in my life putting out code that no one uses or likes. Anyways on with the code.
Also this is sloppy and prolly has some stuff in there you dont need as I forgot I had put this into snippet form(somewhat)
so sorry if it confuses you.

Updated note: I'm sure I could write this a cleaner way but I don't code anymore(except some web related stuff) and I'm lazy and poor
at coding anyways. I'm just throwing this out there because I've seen this requested quite a few times without anyone helping out.

in merc.h

#define IS_GOOD(ch)		((ch)->alignment >= 500)
#define IS_NEUT(ch)		((ch)->alignment >= -250 && (ch)->alignment <= 250)
#define IS_EVIL(ch)		((ch)->alignment <= -500)

stick this at the bottome of pc_race_type or whatever its called for the pc races

   bool		good;
   bool		neut;
   bool		evil;

in const.c redo all your races to have TRUE and FALSE statements for each alignment.... This is what my human race looks like

  { "human",
    {  0,  0,  0,  0,  0 },
    6,
    0,
    SIZE_AVERAGE,
    125,
    17,
	{ 1, 1, 1, 1 },
	TRUE,						    /* Alignment good */
	TRUE,						    /* Alignment neutral */
	TRUE						    /* Alignment evil */
  },

They are all set to true because human has no restrictions...This is what my faerie race looks like

  { "faerie",
    {  0, 0,  0, 0,  0 },
    6,
    AFF_FLYING|AFF_DETECT_HIDDEN|AFF_INFRARED|AFF_DETECT_MAGIC, /* gets haste later on... */
    SIZE_LARGE,
    300,
    25,
	{ 1, 1, 1, 1 },
	TRUE,
	FALSE,
	FALSE
  },

Good is set to true because faerie can only be good. the rest are set to FALSE because they can't be neutral or evil..

This is what my drow race looks like

  { "drow",
    {  0, 0,  0, 0, 0 },
    6,
    AFF_SNEAK|AFF_DETECT_HIDDEN|AFF_INFRARED,
    SIZE_LARGE,
    300,
    25,
	{ 1, 1, 1, 1 },
	FALSE,
	FALSE,
	TRUE
  },

They can only be evil because well they are for the most part an evil race....So the others are set to false while evil is set true.

In my MUD I have you pick alignment before races and give a message saying that alignment depends on what race and class you can be. I also let them know that sometimes evil races aren't always evil and good races aren't always good. So I allow them to speak with a immortal about that if they have changed their evil ways. They have to have a story that is IMO believable. They also have to RP their alignment and stuff IF I do choose to change them. Anyways here is what I did in nanny.c(comm.c) in the nanny function...

This is what my con_get_alignment looks like Notice I use helpfiles to display my races. If you can't figure out how to show your races the way stock rom does then ask someone for help. As I said I am showing you the way I did this. And the MUD I use uses help files for damn near everything. Anyways when the races get shown the first time have some checks in there. This is how mine looks.

	case CON_GET_ALIGN: {
    		int race;
		switch ( argument[0] ) {
			case '1':	ch->alignment =  1000;  break;
			case '2':	ch->alignment =   750;  break;
			case '3':	ch->alignment =   500;  break;
			case '4':	ch->alignment =   250;  break;
			case '5':	ch->alignment =     0;  break;
			case '6':	ch->alignment =  -250;  break;
			case '7':	ch->alignment =  -500;  break;
			case '8':	ch->alignment =  -750;  break;
			case '9':	ch->alignment = -1000;  break;
			default:
				send_to_char("Sorry thats not a valid alignment.\n\r\n\r",ch);
				show_align(ch);
				return;
		}
		write_to_buffer(d,"\n\r",0);
			for ( race = 0; race < MAX_RACE; race++ ) {
        		do_help( ch, "NANNY_RACES" );
	        	if (IS_GOOD(ch)) {
				do_help(ch,"GOOD_RACES");
				write_to_buffer(d,"\n\r\n\r",1);
        			send_to_char( "Enter the name of your desired race: ", ch );
// Uncomment these if you use NiMUD        DC(d) = CON_CHAR_GEN_RACE;
                                d->connected = CON_GET_NEW_RACE
        			break;
			} if (IS_NEUT(ch)) {
				do_help(ch,"NEUTRAL_RACES");
				write_to_buffer(d,"\n\r\n\r",1);
        			send_to_char( "Enter the name of your desired race: ", ch );
//            			DC(d) = CON_CHAR_GEN_RACE;
				d->connected = CON_GET_NEW_RACE
            			break;
			} if (IS_EVIL(ch)) {
				do_help(ch,"EVIL_RACES");
				write_to_buffer(d,"\n\r\n\r",1);
        			send_to_char( "Enter the name of your desired race: ", ch );
//        			DC(d) = CON_CHAR_GEN_RACE;
			        d->connected = CON_GET_NEW_RACE
				break;
			}
		}
		break;

Alright in CON_GET_NEW_RACE add this check. You might have to change send_to_char also...

            if ((race == 0)
            || (!race_table[race].pc_race)
	    || (IS_GOOD(ch) && !race_table[iRace].good)
	    || (IS_NEUT(ch) && !race_table[iRace].neut)
	    || (IS_EVIL(ch) && !race_table[iRace].evil)) {
                send_to_char( "Invalid selection.\n\rEnter race name: ", ch );
                return;
            }

Alright I think thats it I am not sure though. If I did forget something major please let me know so I can update this
asap(heh thats so fun to say). Anyways I think thats it. Have fun and happy MUDding.
